JLP Upper pulley installed

Gang,

Having been around here for nearly three years and read many a horror story regarding upper pulley installs, removals, cuttings, driving with no blower belt, etc., I made a mental note NOT to mess with the upper pulley fitment. Until last night....

JLP released an upper pulley that will fit both Lightnings and 03 Cobras and includes a removal tool allowing you, the rabid L-ophile, to R&R a solid upper pulley in approximately 10 minutes while using minimal tools. No kidding.

I opted for 2lb upper fitment to compliment the existing 4lb lower. Not thinking this would make that much of a difference... WRONG!!

HOLY MOLEY BATMAN!! The blower SCREEEEEAMS and pulls noticibly harder. Torque is GOOOOOOOD

My Road Race/winter program is tuned very conservative and in 55 weather it didnt detonate one bit (but keeping ears open nonetheless). Testing environment included light rolls onto the throttle (no downshifting) from a steady 30, 55, then 65 mph.

However, to maintain some sort of tradition and relevance to the community at large, a quick battery disconnect, flip to the street program, and repeat of the previous test ensued with the same postitive results. A subsequent and conclusionary stab from a dead stop was mandatory.

The Goodyears snarled in disgust and agony at first but ultimately submitted... The Autometer gauge registered a SOLID 15 lbs at WOT and still no pinging..

Imagery of finished product... I know, the engine compartment is rather dirty.

The pulley tool is great! I hear Cobra owners complaining just about changing the upper pulley just like we used to . Too bad there isn't an easy way to spread the word on the ease of this tool. I swapped the pulley on a Cobra in less than 10 minutes. Heck, I could make a business out of swapping pulleys w/ this thing.

Congrats on the install I'm sure you'll be very happy. I don't understand the problems with the upper pulley swaps. I had a 2000 Grand Prix GTP that I had swapped the upper pulley on several times. It was never a problem. They run the Eaton M90 vs the M112 of the L's so the superchargers are similar.

I know the swaps on the GTP really made a difference! I am going to go with the lower pulley come spring. Hopefully it isn't any harder than an upper

I talk to Johnny Lighning about this very subject at the Lightning Shootout at E-Town. Everything he had said ( Like I didn't believe him ) you have confirmed. Especially about the ease of removal.
Must decide between money on house or Lightning........
Wish ALL my decisions where this easy

I have the same combo 4/2 but only seeing 14#'s, must be the humidity. And I think mine wins in the looks department

Jerry

the M90's have a keyway, while the M112 are a press-on fit
or so I 've been led to believe.

thats the combo i was gonna go with but was gonna try the SFPH DUB upper so i could go back to the lowly 4# if i decided 6# was to harsh for everyday driving (or too fuel consuming). Thanks for helping me decide!

Eric,

agreed.. We have achieved pulley fruition, or something.

Jerry,

It was indeed a learning curve for us all. Back in the day, mere mention of an aftermarket pulley was considered suicide. btw, where are you in Indiana?

Gator,

You'll do the right thing.

L838,

REM does indeed have a nice setup.

Killa,

The pulley is aluminum and is quite a bit lighter than the steel stocker. Forgot to weigh them for comparative purposes. Wait, it takes only 5 min. to remove. Report forthcoming.

No NAWSE for me. Not my gig. Pushing the daily driver envelope as it is.

Rollin',

anytime chief.
