That is a pretty common file from JDM for the 2002 Lightnings. Judging by the mods you currently have it should be fine. Just listen for detonation or "pinging". this happens usually when you tip the throttle under a load or at WOT (wide open throttle). If you have any problems give them a call. They will be there for ya....... (732-780-0770)

Hope this helps,
Keith

is that common to get detonation w/ a chip? what can i do so that 100% will not happen. if there is even a slight chance that it will happen i will not buy one.

cobra- It is not uncommon, but, it is easily programmed out. The tuner usually just pulls a little timing out and maybe tweeks the fuel a little bit.

Buy a chip; I recommend the SuperDiabloLogic brand . (There are three types that most people use; Superchips, Diablosport and Autologic.)

but does it also matter about the program you get? like street/race/off road etc.??? cause i just want a mild program to go with the mods i get. (enough to get in the 12's)

I was wonderin how that works also. How does it void your warranty with a chip... This may sound stupid... couldn't u just take it out or is it more complicated than that? Is it possibel to have a safe program and no worries that would help performance or is it a risk as you improve performance. Would a chip help without other mods or is that worthless? Yes i did a search but the word chip comes up in every post. I have no knowledge on the chip thing. sorry for the stupid questions. i know i am gonna get laughed at for this one but u gotta learn somehow.

Thanks

There are no stupid questions....Only people to stupid to ask

You hace to clean (read, scrape the terminals clean), so even if you removed the chip from the computer, there would be "signs" that a chip had been present

Bot in May of 2001, now have 39,200 miles on it, 5 dyno runs, many 1/4 mile races, and 3 different chips from 3 different tuners; one(I switch between all 3) of which has been on my L since 2,800 miles. My L has never had any(discernable) detonation--none--and has never been in the shop.

Now, you have to be clear when discussing your chip needs with whatever tuner you choose. You have to use 93 octane, fresh fuel. If you get a 'race' tune, then you must use the proper octane fuel--100, 104, Torco Accelerator, etc. You must use the proper spark plug with the correct heat range although, I got into the 12s with my OEM plugs. You must be sure that whatever plug you have, that they are properly tightened(snug+1/16th of a turn)

Fix any vacuum/air leaks or don't let that happen.

I know I've left some things out(I'm a firm believer in using a fully synthetic oil though I won't claim it keeps detonation at bay) but others(watch out for FastGator will step in.

YZF -

Like LIGHTNINROD said talk to your tuner. You can pull the chip and disguise the dirty deed with some goop from an electronics store.

Since it sounds like you want to be pretty conservative, I would just get a single program mild street chip and a filter. Probably worth around 20rwhp on an 01-02. Do not have them increase the line pressure for the tranny, if you want a great shifting truck get the FT valve body. There are arguments that this mod will increase your tranny life. I love mine. If you want to be real coservative, have the tuner keep the cutout on that shuts down 4 cylinders during shifts.

Lastly, take the thing and have it dynoed and get your A/F measured. Keep it around 11.5-11.7 and you will have a pretty safe mixture with no detonation (assuming a mild program that doesn't have a ton of extra timing.)

Good Luck.
