four-wheel steering

just saw the new silverado commercial that showed its 4 wh. steering.....

pretty sweet! i wouldnt want it on an L but if i had an f250 or something i would dig it! but does it provide any sort of weak link as far as putting the power down, etc? also how does it work exactly? just curious...looks pretty neat.

i think ford is supposed to come out with that in a few years

c&d had an article on it a while ago. basically there are like 3 modes. at below a certain speed, the wheels turn in opposite directions for the smallest turning radius, at middle range speeds it turns with just the front, then at high speeds they both turn the same direction so it like floats sideways almost. they also had it on the tv show. it was pretty impressive seeing them do the slalom type thing with the big trailors and seeing how it rocked with 4ws off, and alot more steady with it on.
not sure when the ford superdutys are supposed to have it though

My work neibor has a new GMC crew cab long bed 4x4. That thing turns as tight as my L. Very cool. Wish my F-350 did that.

I was told it only functions under like 15-20 mph which would help much at speed.

To me it just seems like another Front end that possibly down the road you are going to have to replace......don't think it would be benificial to the everyday consumer, but possibly in the superduty models for fleets i can see happening...

it's a sweet option, and it works very well, but it ought to for 7K. they always seem to have a 2-3K discount on the quadrasteer option. don't think they could sell it any other way. what could you do to your Lightning for 7K

yeah, don't think it would be worth it on a L, or any f150 for that matter, but on the superduty's definately. the shorter turning radius for the lenght and the added stability when towing would come in helpful i'm sure. kind of expensive though.

Spankdog, the wheels turn in the opposit direction at underr those speeds. Then from like 20-45 they act like normal and only the front steers, then from like 45 and up, they both turn in the same direction so you kind of like coast sideways rather than turning sharply. It was on C&D tv a few months ago. It looked like that trailer they were pulling was gonna flip over when they did a really quick emergency swirve with the 4 wheel steering off, but when they did it with it on, it barely made the trailer tip to the sides. so definately helpful at low and high speeds.

come on ford, get on the game here
i think i read in a mag somewhere they had a system in the development.

the ugliest thing about it though is how they made the rear fenders on the chevy and gmc bulge out. almost looks like a dually without the 4 rear wheels The fender well is so big, they didn't have to flare it out at all anyway. LoL. not that the truck is half way decent looking to start LoL!

4-wheel steering? 4-wheel steering?

Dude, we still have a stone age rear suspension. I'd be satisfied with IRS.

Kinda like worrying about making the Olympic track team when you can't jog around the block.

Cool

Ford does have a rr steer coming out. I designed it two and a half years ago. And don't worry, it's stout!

My old chevy pickup was so bad that I had to make like 18 point turns in that thing compared to my L and 3 point turns. that new 4 wheels driving is sweet though, my buddy has that on his GMC.
