Lightbulb Turbos

Has anyone ever thought of taking out the supercharger and put in a big turbo? I only say this because I just rode around today with a guy with a turbo charged Supra and that thing pulled liked hell! Those are some fast little cars! Don't get me wrong though I am FORD FOR LIFE! So has anyone ever thought about a turbo?

I sold my turbo Supra earlier this year. The market was crazy after the Fast-n-Furious movie and I cashed in while I could.

I don't think a turbo would be optimal on the Lightning. The truck is so heavy it really needs the torque down low to get moving. A turbo's powerband is way higher in the rpm band compared to the Eaton. Plus I don't think the 5.4 was built to spin the kind of RPM that a big turbo likes. I shifted my Supra at 6500 rpm, people with bigger turbos shift at 7500 rpm. Still might be fun to see one on a truck. May run like a bat out of hell, who knows.

Our massive amounts of power in the lower part of the RPM range is what gets the truck goin. I don't think a turbo'd L would do so well.

Can you say :turbo lag"? I had a 1986 Saab 9000 Turbo and got it runnin' pretty good but as others have said, I don't think it would work for our Ls.

Turbos

I went to cecil for the "superstangs of the net" event and saw a gen1 L with TWIN TURBOS hit the dyno. WOW That truck pulled some impressive numbers. He was around 500 at the rear wheels. I didn't get to see his truck run the 1/4. But a turbo on a gen2 I don't think thats a goog idea.
