Question idle air control valve? Is this it?

Is the silver canister the idle air control valve?

Can you clean it with WD-40? Thanks for the help.

Yep! Thats the IAC. Mine was sticking and causing my truck to run like crap but I just bought a new one $60.

I think mine is malfunctioning as well, and I will replace it tomorrow. It is causing my truck to stall out. It happens when I am slowing down. It starts to stutter a little bit, and it will stall if I pop it into neutral.

Has anyone else had this problem?

My truck picks the idle back up if I put it in neutral. It only drops down if the truck is in any gear and my foot is on the brake. Just started tonight.

It's pretty common with those new style IACs, I've replaced a ton of them when I worked at the dealer. They usually make a loud ticking sound when they are on the way out.

Mine had a rough idle and if I goosed it while it was in neutral it would die. I watched the tech tap on it with a hammer while it was running, which killed the engine and narrowed it down to the IAC.

That is the IAC. However on my 2000 F150 5.4L, mine is almost right next to the firewall. It is on the back left-hand side of the intake. Just had to replace mine today. Drove it until I had to use two feet to drive anywhere, then it really got annoying.

I don't know about the Lightnings, but I do know that on the "old" 5.0s they got dirty all the time and had to be removed and cleaned with WD-40. I assume these are similar and can also be cleaned (very easy job). If they get dirty and stick they will cause rough idle. I had rather clean it that spend $60 on a new one if cleaning is all it really needed.

What's the "valve" or something, on the other side of the s/c? Mine is all rusted and looks like crap. It's the only thing on the truck that is rusted and it drives me nuts. Anyone know what I'm tallking about or am I just talking out of my a%$?

Yes, that's the EGR(eexhaust gas recirculation) system. It get's so hot, it will always look crappy.
