99-00 01-02 computers

The 99-00 computers are different than the 01-02 right?
A chip from a 01-02 wont work in a 99-00 right

There should be a little white sticker inside the right door jamb, near the computer (which is under the right end of the dash).

99s are CUX1

00s are CUX2

01s are CXN1

02s are ABU2

Some 99 trucks have been reflashed by the dealer to CUX2, as it's a standard Ford update. There are no updates for the other 3 calibrations.

You can't use a chip from one of the 4 calibrations on a different one. And if you have a CUX1 that's been reflashed, you need a CUX2 chip. Hope this helps.

Well, you could if you wanted to. You can flash a 99-00 to an 01, but not an 02. However it is not an approved Ford update, and it's also against the law, so you might have a hard time getting a dealer to do it unless you know someone there.

Sure, any chip can be reprogrammed for whatever you need.

Sal, why did Ford decide to do this?

Ford updates calibrations for many reasons such as calibration errors, drivability problems, gas milage issues, etc. The CUX1 to CUX2 recalibration is strictly for EPA reasons, as has to do with emmisions. It is not performance related, and does not help, or hurt performance.
