I went to dim the dash lights and poof all of the guage ilumination went out. I still have all of my other lights though. I know all of the fuses are good and I checked to see if any wires came loose but everyting seems to be ok. The only thing I can think of would be the little relay screwed to the back of the guages.... Anyother options???? Please help..

check connections at the headlamp switch... the dimmer switch and again in the multifunction switch

 

The rotating dimmer may just be 'dirty' internally. Try rotating it back and forth rapidly to see if you can 'clean' it.

The dimmer still works the odometer and radio so I don't think it is that.....

 

The exact same thing happened to my 2001 L when it was only 1 week old. The "luminesent" lighting of the gauges went dark, but all of the other lights on the dash, radio, heat/ac controls, & power window buttons all still worked just fine. The dealer had to replace the gauge cluster and code 2 new keys to go with it. They said they had never seen that happen before. It's been fine ever since, about a 1 1/2 years. Go see your dealer and I hope you got the extended waranty. Good luck, hope this helps.
