Will this fit?

Will an amp with the following measurements fit under the seat of a Lightning?

Dimensions:14-1/8"W x 1-7/8"H x 10-3/8"D

I know why don't I just go measure. Well I had to trade mine in and I am waiting on a 03 to come in.

Also what are you opinions on a Sony XM-5150GSX amp to push the four factory speakers for now and two kicker 8 ohm 10's in an mtx thunderform box. WOuld this work until I can do better. What could I expect from this setup ?

Thanks

Hey cdees -- my amp is 13.5" L x 2" H x 12.7" W and it fits good. Your amp is a bit longer, but that's the measurement that has the most play in my setup, so you should be fine.

One of the best things you can do is chuck the four stock Sanyo speakers and put in some decent 6x8's.

How are you planning to set up your amp/speakers? I've got a Pioneer DEH-P9300 head unit hooked to a 720W 4-channel Ample Audio amp pushing 90Wx4 RMS @ 4 ohm or 145Wx4 RMS @ 2 ohm. I replaced the stock speakers with Pioneer TS-A6865 6x8's (180W max) and put 2 Pioneer Premiere TS-W1041DVC 10" subs (800W max) in the MTX Thunderform. I've got one channel dedicated to each of the door speakers and the other two channels are bridged, running parallel to the subs. The 2 rear deck speakers are just running off the head unit.

Good luck !!!

What more can you expect from someone that finds enough value in what Ferris said to post it.

Good question Madhouse

Here is what I have planned for now since money is an issue.
I plan on using two older kicker c10a 8 ohm subs in an mtx thunderform box. For now I will have to use the factory head unit that will be in my 03 L when it gets here. I am going to power it with a Sony XM-5150 GSX 5 channel amp. One channel to each stock speaker for now and the sub channel to the two kickers. IS this possible and if so how would I wire it to get the best performance?

Thanks

I'll tell you this, the baskets on my subs were a bit bigger than the hole for the MTX subs that came in the box. I had to dremel for about 30 minutes to make the holes just wide enough to accomodate the baskets. No big deal, just something to think about...

anything is possible its just going to take time to do, HEHEHEHE. You have to wire up your subs to a 4 ohm load cause thats the lowest your going to get them and I'm sure that amp will handle that easy (but is it going to have enough power?). Your going to have to get two LOC's to get your signals from the speaker locations and at that point its really useless to even wire up your stock speakers to the amp cause the signal is going to be so distorted that its not going to sound any better.

Honestly if you want to do it right, but a amp just for the subs and wire that up to them at 4 ohms.

Go buy some bass blockers for the stock speakers and install them for now just so you don't blow them up. Run the stockers of the stock head unit and it will sound good with the bass blockers installed.

Once you have the funds, install the head unit next.

Then install the speakers after you have more funds.

then get another amp for the interior speakers once you have more funds.

You have to remember that you can always turn the gain down on the amp, but you can never raise the amps power load past the peak point. buy big to start and it will save you in the long run.

Oh yeah one last thing.

My grand prix that I use for work and a daily driver has stock speakers in it. I installed a new MP3 deck in it with about 40 watts, then I installed a single 12inch audiobahn sub with about 1200 watts to it and the system sounds awesome for stock speakers. bass blockers really do help that much and you may never change the speakers after you do that.
