Question Oil pressure gauge ? is it acurate?

I've noticed that my oilpressure gauge always reads the same thing. Its the same at idle as it is at WOT. Its the same at coldstart up as it is at full operating temps. Now when I start up just after doing an oilchange it does take it a couple of seconds to jump to the normal range so I know its reading something. Is it just mine or what? Logic and previous experience dictates that there should be some variences in oilpress when rpms change.

Talking Yeah, one of Fords Genius Idea's

Hey Nasty W, as you can see our oil gauge either reads on or off...LOL. I guess a guage that actually tells oil pressure instead of an on/off switch was too much to ask. So in all honesty you dont know if you have 50 psi or 20 psi. It all depends on where the default psi is set to trigger the switch at. Ford has really got some "genius" designers/engineers...LOL.

Angry Thats fraudulent!!!

Thats no gauge!!! Thats a damn manual idiot light. The manual refers to it as a guage and the SVT dealer I purchased the truck from had me take notice to the gauges as he pointed them out. This really pisses me off. I am meticulous in the care of my vehicles and 99.999% of the time I'll notice a problem developing before it gets bad enough to set off an idiot light. What were they thinking??? Now I have to go to bed mad.

It's not too much to ask for an accurate oil pres gauge, but frankly, the average consumer is not knowledgeable enough to understand that their oil pressure is SUPPOSED to fluctuate. honestly, most of them don' t look at anything except the speedo anyway, but those that do look don't understand why their guage is moving around, so they take it in for service because their friend told them their motor must be bad or something.

No, it's a gauge, just not a particularly accurate one. what they were thinking is what I said above, and also that it wasn't worth the money to engineer an accurate oil pressure sending unit to use on Lightnings (which are limited production and wouldn't be very cost effective so they use the standard F-150 part.... this would be just one more thing that would make the trucks cost more and then everybody would complain about that).

later,
chris
