Clonetek, Vinny, Audio people???? ANYONE?

Please help me out with this if you can.
Ok here is the situation:

I have 2 Older Kicker Comp c10a 8 ohm speakers. Will they fit in a mtx thunderform box? If so what amp will I need to put them in my 03 L when it gets here? The 03's have the in dash 6 cd player so I wont have to worry about relocating that. I know I should get newer subs and a new head unit but for now this is what I can afford to do. If someone can help me out with a set up using the stock head unit, kicker subs, and thunderform box and some type of amp. Vinny I know you are good with this stuff what do you recommend. Clonetek chime in! THanks everyone all of you are great to get info from!

Thanks
Casey

any mono or bridged 2 channel amp will work fine. i have all phoenix gold amps and i love them. the 10's you have will work fine(no need to spend more money, save that for go-fast stuff)

you will also need a line level adaptor to convert the speaker wire to rca jacks. i also HIGHLY recomend swaping out the front speakers as soon as you have some extra $$.

hope this helps, good luck...chris

If you are talking about me,I do not know the difference between an amp an a ohm but my radio guy does and that is all that matters to me.
Hope you find your answer though.

Check out Kicker's website for specs on your subs. Even though your's are an older model they don't chnge much from year to year, so the numbers should be about the same. Looks like they can handle 125 watts of continuous power, so any amp that can push around 125 watts RMS to each sub will work.

Any amp from Phoenix Gold is solid but they tend to be pricey. Just depends on how much of an audiophile you are as to which brands to look for. You may be happy with another brand for much cheaper. Look for one that has a built in crossover, though most have them nowdays.

Be sure to wire those subs parallel so you get a 4ohm load.

Wendy, right now I am planning on keeping my head unit factory. If I change my mind I will let you know. Also thanks to everyone that is helping with this project and everyone who has replied. Fastasl I would really appreciate the wiring setup when you get a chance that would help a lot.

with those two subs you can wire them up 4 ohms mono and thats going to be the best way possible to do it.

As for the stock head unit, you can leave it but your going to get a crappy signal from that unit no matter what you do. New head units are so nice cause they boost up the signal's anywhere from 2 to 8 volts at the pre amp. That makes the signal stronger and will acutally make you speakers louder then with hardly no voltage behind that.

Get a amp that rated for maximum power at 4ohms mono and thats going to be your best best bet.

I have a kicker DX700 for sale that would put out 700 watts at 4ohms and its a class D digital amp that would draw very little power from your truck. The amps like brand new and its just sitting in my garage. $400 bucks and free shipping and its your bro. I got all the parts that come with it for the adjustable gain control and the shrouds for hiding the wires. Its really a nice amp I just had to have more power so I jumped mine up to a Rockford with 1500 watts at 2ohms.

Let me know, joemessana@jvi.net

If not you can check out www.thezeb.com thats my favorite site for car stereo stuff. www.sounddomain.com is a really nice site too and www.caraudio.com has more links for buying car audio products.
