99 vs 2001

Whats it take for a 99 or 2000L to run with the 2001's. Will it just need the 90mm mass air and 3:73's.

Thanks Gene

the intake design was different as well... but a cold air kit will cure that problem all together... intake manifold is a different design too, but I think there are minimal gains seen there in stock to lightly modified trim.

Just curious, I,m looking to buy an L and was wondering if it's worth the extra money to get a 2001 or later L vs the 99 or 2000. There seems to be alot more 99's for sale in my area.

I think the later model is worth the extra. Has new style intercooler factory installed.. and there is a better chance of the later model haveing a factory warranty still... so if you find anything you do not like you can get it replaced... when buying used you might want to check and see that the warranty has not been VOID due to mods.....

Thanks svt4rd! What did Ford do to correct the intercooler problems with the eary L's? I thought I read somewhere that they upgraded the intercooler to the new design.

The 2001's would be a better choice if you just wana build a fast truck. The 99 & 00's motors seem to handle more abuse. Get what you can afford is the main thing.....

I traded my 99 in for the current 01. The main reason was the black paint, Iam lazy But the 3.73 vs 3.55, the improved intercooler, the improved lower intake, and the headlights made the decision easy. Get whats best for you and you'll be a happy camper

01--aluminum driveshaft, updated PCM, 14mm vs. 12mm(99) lug bolts, and those freekin' altezza tail lights ! If you can get the $$$, I'd recommend the 01s.
