Funny Chevy SS Post

These guys even know what is up... Post from a website dedicated to new $40,000 Chevy SS Extended cab...
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here comes a rant...............

Unfortunately Chevrolet is in a lose, lose proposition. If they lower the retail on the SS, they look like fools for selling the Sierra Denali (virtually the same) for more. If they up the HP, they will undoubtedly have reliability issues and have to delay the release. Here's the REAL problem;

Can we finally all admit that this is not the truck we wanted. It's more of a less, less than an SS. Many here want to S/C it, upgrade exhaust, upgrade tranny, etc. Why? Because unless you want to get spanked by every Lightning and now Hemi equipped Ram, you'd better get some HP's. If you can't compete in HP than take the high ground. Nice monochrome paint, 20" rims, embroidered seats, nascar inspired exhaust, AWD. Sound familiar?

GM - Did we want AWD? No? Knock off $4,000. Did we want 20" rims? No? Knock off another $1,500. Did we want a leather interior? No? Knock off another $1,000. Now take the $6,500 we saved and put it into the engine and transmission. Get the HP up to 425 minimum and let's have some fun.

Remember the kid in the school yard who wore dress slacks and a tie to school, while everyone else wore jeans? How many times a day did he get his ^ss kicked? The SS is begging for an ^ss beating. Anyone who knows jack about trucks will be lining up to spank it at the stop light express.

Don't tease us with show vehicles with over 400 hp and then give us paint and rims to tide us over. It's about time GM under-promises and over-delivers. There are many success stories using this formula, Subaru WRX, Ford Lightning and BMW M3 to name a few. These are all cars that were reported to have less and delivered more!

GM - There's only one way to save this SS. Give it over 400 HP and underrate it to save insurance premiums. Bring the price in somewhere around $38,000. It's your last chance to save the SS.

100% pure truth right there...very insightful. i grew up a chevy man but when you look at the market today, all chevy has is the corvette. when it comes time for a sport truck, the Lightning reigns supreme and will continue to do so until chevy gets their head out of their a$$ and gives us some competition.

Could not have said it better myself.I am an old Cheby guy(I did own a 68 stang though) and when I went looking Cheby had chit to sell me, So I went ford.Been happy ever since.

One thing though. All this Ford warranty stuff is new to me.No matter what I did to my chebys I never had a warranty problem.I put airbags and lifted a truck and put aftermarket wheels on towed a lot with it and Bowtie kept fixing it ,even went through 2 trannies and never had a warraty issue.
I am scared to just drive by a Ford dealer now.

To tell you the truth I was going to buy a L before I started reading on this forum. Main reason is ford is pushing all this HP through a 5.4Lt motor that cant handle it. I see post after post about your motors blowing, oil leaking ect. ect. ect. I've own ford and chevy both and im hoping the Chevy Regular cab SS is made because of the powerfull and reliable Vortec motor. Even the ford dealership talks to me about how great the Vortec motors are. A guy I know has a 1997 Chevy 1500 with a 4.3Lt Vortec and check this out he has over 300,000 miles and it hasnt even been overhauled uses no oil doesnt smoke at all. One good thing about the chevy is the Vortec motor. Im waiting for either the SRT-10 dodge truck, Chevy SS reg. cab or maybe the 2003 Ford L if I dont see any more blowing motors. So its a good thing to put a 6.0Lt Vortec motor in a truck and produce that much HP without a blower. anyway just my .02

I believe that the 5.4L V8 in the lightnings can handle the power, but when you start to modify them with 10lbs pulleys and 150 shot of NOS then you are pushing it. If you owned a lightning and kept it stock then most likely the engine could live that long also.

Most L engines are blowing because of chips, too much timing in low temps with wrong gas and Chevy's vortec will be venting blocks just like our L's!

Hey SubZero

The S/C 5.4 motor in the Lightning is one of the best motors EVER made. I suggest you spend about a month on one of those Vortec sites and then compare notes. You will hear every little detail about what is wrong with them over there. The amount of posts probably won't equal what you find here as the level of enthusiasum will never match that of the Lightning owners. If all you want is a motor that will deliver 300,000 miles then get yourself one of those. This Lightning motor delivers something that no other motor has EVER done in automotive history. It is a joy to drive! THE FASTEST PRODUCTION TRUCK IN HISTORY...Not a flame...Just the FACTS

since we are talking engines here, one engine is always on the "10 best is the world" list, and the other one, hasn't made it yet

I have two freinds who have had there 4.3 vortecs self destruct at 70-80 k...one of these guys replaced his with another 4.3 which also self destructed around 74 k,and there dad is about to retire from gm.

One brother swapped a third motor [350] into his 1/2 ton and the other bought a new truck with the 5.3 vortec.

Then you have my brother in law who got over 200k on his 4.3 in his s 15.....so you see it is a game of chance with any motor.

If you ask me, generous motors is chicken sh*t when it comes to actually producing a viable sport truck

Main reason is people that don't listen to their vehicles. If
you skip the "L", you'll be missing a TON of fun ...

L iminator, I think you're RIGHT ON in your assessment.

Of course anybody can slap a supercharger on a motor and have a fast car/truck. theres no pun intended on my post. I've just been concerend the way your motors keep giving up on you.

Oh and ib fast, as far as chevy being afraid to produce something fast. dont think that yet cause the Chevy SS regualar cab with that the title "Fastest production truck ever made" if they make it. Well if dodge doesnt take it first. I've always been a ford guy till I bought a chevy I just like the way they drive. No flame here either just wanting the facts. rather to get a L or not.

Dustin
