Anyone else had Bassani Cat Back BLOW OFF OF TRUCK WHILE DRIVING???

Hi all, had a customer come in today that had his bassani cat back apparently BLOW completely off of the truck while driving at the dragstrip!

Apparently this also happened to ICULOKN?

The mufflers and tailpipe assembly came loose at the rear portion of the x-pipe.

Both clamps at this joint remained tight, but just didn't hold.
they had to be loosened to reinstall the exhaust.

One thing I noticed was that the clamps used on this newer bassani kit were the "band" or "strap" type, while the ones that I used on my kit a year or more ago were the conventional "u-bolt" style. I never had any problems with mine.

luckily the hangers held the exhaust underneath the truck (apparently only inches from the ground though) and didn't contact the track and come up and rip up the ground effects or get run over or otherwise damage the vehicle at all.

anyway, I was just curious if anyone else had run into this.

thanks.

later,
chris

Not blow off but my buddies just fell off in my garage. Thats from those crappy band clamps, you really got to make those tighter then all hell to make sure nothing comes loose. I like the old style C clamps myself, I know those work great.

It also happened to Bob Thompkins. I welded mine to make sure it went nowhere.

Mine blew off too, but thanks to the custom made stainless steel driveshaft loop, it didn't hit the ground. I was warned, but used the pos bassani clamps and lived to regret it. I went to the local auto-parts store and bought 4 heavy duty 2 1/2" muffler clamps and the "blow-off" problem was solved.

Am I sitting on a time bomb?

My Bassani C/B has been on for a year now with no problem. I recently added a 4lber. and Diablo Delta Chip. Those whom have done this know the hard to believe difference...Think it would be wise to go ahead and tack-weld it now?

Yeah it did happen to me until I changed to the U-bolt style. Finally I welded mine on. Did this happen to my buddy in the Silver 02? I warned him about it. Those stock Clamp style SUCK!

I was at a car show and when I was leaving I did a burnout just like everybody else and when I let off the brake and it started to pick up speed the front of the X-pipe blew off but every thing stayed together though nothing it the road thank god. So I took it to my buddies garage and he put U-bolt clamps alot better than those other ones.

Yeah, my MAC blew off too - it was my own stupid fault, though. For some dumb-a$$ reason, I used a set of 3" exhaust clamps I had, instead of the 2½" ones that came on the truck.

Oh well, you live and you learn, right? Seriously, though, it'll only cost you a few bucks at the hardware store to get U-Bolts. Short of welding, there's nothing else that will actually HOLD it...

yeah, it was Hatcher's truck, we got some u-bolt style exhaust clamps and put them on, hopefully it'll be ok now. he didn't really want to weld it.

Mine blew off, I used the band clamps that came with it and was at WOT and popped right off. Now have the u-bolt style clamps and haven't had a problem since...

Here's the synopsis

Umm, will I have to worry about this when I increase boost? I havent had a problem, but I'm still stock in the boost department... and just about every other for that matter.
