hey im shane i have a 4# on my 2000 L and i think the timing may either need to be lowered OR i am trying Colder plugs... i am new here so can i get help on picking out plugs please... ( i wanna run sunday and have it cleared up by then so asap... )otherwise i wasnt meant to run... but again i am debating over the expensive ones for $85 the denso ones or the ngk ones the tr5's 5.5's or tr6's lemme know what'll help the little bit of detination im getting in 3rd gear when the boost is at 12-14... thanks, Shane
Or if i need the chip reburned with LESS timing that may be it to. i am in Illinois and its COLD here 30 degrees some nights i race... so that may help 2 but i wanna keep timing so may try cooler plugs, lemme know.. thanks, shane

Well it all depends really on your tune.
Allot of JDM guys run TR5's where the PSP guys and JL guys run the colder IT 22's and IT24's. Thats a general statement keep in mind.

In my opinion and from all the reading I have done, TR5's run way to hot for 4# or above and I think that is the general opinion around here. I am running currently TR6's with a slight miss at idle and no miss under load. I am actually putting in the BR7's this weekend. They run colder then the TR6's. I feel the Densos are way overpriced but that is just my opinion and not intending to flame anyone using them. I see you are from ILL so be careful with that really cold air and the TR5's. Peace
RTKILLA is right on the money. Ask your tuner. JDM tunes for the hotter plugs they others usually don't.
Listen to the tuner you bought the chip from for plug advice. It's their program so they know the best setup to run with it. It's a pretty simple rule.

Rhinoslug,
You are exactly right if you are talking about a PSP tune which you are running.
A JDM tune is a different story because one size does not fit all as much as some people would like it to. That was not said as a dig just as a fact.
Regular TR5
TR5IX Iriudium (I think it burns more like a regular TR6)

Shane,
It's best to have a dual program chip when running a pulley. A safer cold weather program is a good thing to have when the temp drop below 50 degrees. That's what I run on the street in cold weather.
To keep running my warm weather program at the track, I put a couple of gallons of 104 unleaded in a 1/4 tank for safeties sake when it's cold. A program that is aggressive will run fine in 60 degree or above weather but can detonate in temps below that especially with a bigger pulley.

Hope I can agree with RT without him calling me Sally or Martha, or.....
LTNBOLT is correct also, tell your tuner what you have and the conditions.
I run the Tr5s gapped at .040 year round. This should be a good winter plug, especially if Joe has a free set, but I would sugest a reburn, take out a little timing. Detonation will eat any plug and I don't think going colder will stop Detonation IMHO. Gapping at less than .040 might help.
Shane, You'll have to come to Byron next year with The Illness Gang.

Right now he's running stock plugs so thats a big no no with a 4lber and a chip from JL. Do any of you guys have a set of E.T. streets and rims for sale. His truck being a stock height will work good with a 26" tall tire plus it will give him a little more gearing. For now atleast use those and then later on once he's going faster hook it up with some hoosier's.
P.S. you can be jimmy boy?!?!
Sal doesn't seem to mind when I call him sally boy. HAHAHAHAHHA. Its an Italian thing anyway.
When the IAT senses colder outside temps, the PCM adds timing. With extra boost, you can/will get detonation. Get a correctly tuned chip(2-way would be good) and put in TR6s gapped at about .038" for a 4 lber. The TR5s are the same heat range as the OEM plugs--too 'hot' for extra boost.

i would think with the 4lb lower, you should run the 6's, i run the br7's myself with a 6lb
the denso's will misfire less, but the ngk's are a stronger plug, i used br7's , switched ot denso's, added nitrous and switched back to the br7's
but, i would start off with a new tune, plugs aint the problem, you need different a/f or timing

Well he definetly needs to get some Tr6's in that truck and I know with the right gap I can solve the detonation problem. .035 should be good for a JL tune. but the stock plugs got to go, thats just not safe to me.
