Nittos ?

I have seen several Lightnings drive into the track with the Nitto drag radials on their trucks. So I must believe that they are road worthy.
What I would like to know is anyone also using a Nitto on the front of thier Lightning ? I really hate to change my tires when I arrive at the strip, so I was thinking that maybe I will get a set of the drag radials for the rear, and a set of the regular Nittos (something that hopefully matches in apperance) for the front.
What size do you who have them use ?
Need your input.

Marc

obviously if the drag radials are fine on the rear of the truck, the regular nitto is going to be fine for the front

it's a street tire like any other

unless your question was putting the dr's on the front, i probably wouldn't do that unless your doing some road racing

lets make it easier.....

Has anyone here tried running the 295/45ZR18 Nitto on the front and the 305/45R18 Drag radial on the rear of their Lightning??
Will the difference in height set off the ABS light ?
Anyone?????

i seriously doubt it, i've run from 26" to 28" slicks on the rear and never set an abs light

Marc,

You're only talking about a 45mm difference in height. Not even enough to notice a change in the speedometer.

Now, one thing I HAVE seen, is people TEAR through the Nitto 555R's.... A friend of mine barely pulled 8,000 miles out of a set on his RX7.... His next set was the Yokohama A032R... Those almost lasted 10,000!

That is exactly what I have on my truck. It works good.

There is almost difference in height and the ABS light has never came on.

Okay easterisland tell me.....

Now that I have found someone who has the set up I am looking at please tell me how you like it.
I really get tired of changing tires at the track, and I really like to run the DOT classes, which I can not do now with the Hoosiers.
Have you had them on long ? How do you like them ? And etc. and etc. Do they look the same in apperance front to back tire wise ?
Thank you in advance for any info.

Marc

They look close to the same in appearance. The nitto hook better on the street than do the F1's. I would still switch them out at the track for some DOT slicks.

I thought you said you have the extreme drags on the rear of your truck, and the 295/45zr's on the front ?
It is my intention to keep the 305/45R18 extreme drags on the rear, and the 295-45zr's on the front at all times, so I don't have to change at the track.
I very seldom drive my Lightning unless I am going to the track or maybe a local cruise in. Realizing the Nittos will only last around 10,000 to 15,000 miles. And I have Never been in the rain so that is not a problem.

What do you have on yours Beefcake..

Do you have the extremes on yours all the time in the rear, or are you talking about the 295/45zr18's?
I am not sure that everyone understands that I want to run the drag radials on the rear and the 295/zr's on the front, ALL THE
TIME. I do not want to have to change over to them at the track all the time. And 90% of my street driving is on the way to the track.
Thanks
Marc

I thought I was pretty clear, here are the different tires and wheels in my possesion as of today.

I have nitto tires on four chromed stock 18" 2001 wheels. The tires on 2 of the wheels are the nitto 555r 305/45/18 drag radials the ones on the front are nitto 555's 295/45/18.

I also have 6 2001 stock wheels 4 with good year F1's and 2 with nitto 555r's 305/45/18.

I also have 2 16x8 aluminum wheels with 28x10x16 hoosier slicks.

I have on order the following with which I plan to run the Nitto 555's on front and 555r's on the back with a set of hoosiers on the 16x8's:
2-16x8 weld prostars
2-18x8 weld prostars
2-18x9.5 weld prostars

I drove mine daily with the nittos and loved it. I'm going the same route this next time with the new tires. Excellent idea-unless you don't have the extra money to purchase new rear tires occasionally. If you fall into that group go with the F1's or regular nitto 555's.
