Specific chip burned fordifferent regions
I've seen this mentioned ALOT. I really don't beleive that should play as big (if any) a role as people think. Unless your talking about xtreme altitudes. How many of you have a 4 seasons chip? I kow here in Connecticut , we have 20 degree winters, and 90 degree summers, humidity and barometric pressures vary daily. I don't know how much chip burners take this into consideration, but for the most part they shouldn't. I can see if you live in Denver and you take your truck to Las Vegas to race and you change chips, but what if you don't??? What if i decide to take my truck up to a higer elevation??? What if a Florida owner drives his truck on an unusually cold winter morning??? There is no way a chip can correct for weather that changes daily. On my GN i have a FAST sequential system, and on a daily sometimes hourly basis i have to change parameters. I see other GN racers at the track claiming how well they do on chipped car,but they also burn their chips at the track an hour before they race.
Sorry if i p*ssed anyone off, i see alot of people/tuners are very touchy in this community when it comes to chip burning. What does everyone think???
p.s. A FAst System (for those who don't know) basically is a fuel injection system you controll from a laptop. It replaceshe whole stock computer and you can change all parameters that the stock computer can. Its like having your own chip burner with you, but the kicker is the fast system has a correction factor that a chip could never have just in case your program is a litte off.

Its not the fact that a chip is tuned for a specific region. Its more or less tuned toward the outside temps. Correct me if i'm wrong........The computer does different things with timing according to the outside temps. Maybe someone else can elaborate. I think the computer pulls timing with outside temps above 45 degrees(?) and it doesn't below 45. Again, someone more in the know can elaborate.
Question on the FAST system??
I've seen it used in PRO 5.0 cars, but can it be adapted and used in the Lightning??

I'm amost positive it could be used on any fuel injected car. Someone w/ some knowledge would have to come up with some kind of starter program, and maybe a little tweaking to the harness. But beware, the sequential units are close to $3000, and a bank to bank is around $2000.
As for tuning w/ temps, like i said, how can you account for temps that can be 30 degrees in the morning and 80 degrees in the afternoon?? It seem if you tune for weather conditions, you and your truck could be in big trouble.

I personally would like to see somo one come out with a program that the average person can use to tune there trucks according to theweather conditions that change. I would buy it in a second and I know everyone else would be up for it too.
Its not that anyone wants to screw there tuner out of the reburn fee's its just nice to be able to see your real world conditions and compensate for them right then and there.
But then again whats a programmer cost like the tuners use, 5 grand or somthing?
What about a DFI or somthing like the mustang guys use. somthing you know

There's really two seperate issues that pertain to this thread, regional tuning and weather related tuning.
I calibrate my programs differently for poor fuel, like CA, OR, NV, etc. I also do different calibrations for very high altitude areas. I try to keep a sharp on the orders to spot troublesome geographical areas, but it's usually per customer request.
Now the weather thing is a different issue. The main reason for that, is because the PCM will add in or subtract timing for certain temperatures. Going from 90 degrees to 50 degrees, the PCM will add in 3 degrees of timing. Thats why many people get detonation when the cold air comes in this time of year. Doing a multiple program chip with cold weather and warm weather options on it, basically allows the truck to run the same timing all the time, because we adjust for that.

sal,but what happens when that person goes out of those conditions? With a GN chip, there is a general burn for a race an street chip. Most burners will not burn a street chip for a certain temp, elevation, etc, because there can be too many variables, but of course like you said, if the customer asks for something, all you can do is give your best opinion and hope he follows it, but in the end, you have to give the customer what he wants. I gotta take a ride down to your shop and shoot the s**t. There are allta things i need to know about my truck.
As for the FAST system aka FELPRO,SPEEDPRO, it changes names yearly. I just got off the phone with my parts guy and he's gonna make some calls to see if they an make it work.
DFI, now is basically the same as the FAST system. DFI used to be like a chip burner, but it didn't have the auto correction capabilities the fast system does so like a chip, whatever is programmed in there is gospel and just pray you entered the correct #'s, but the newer version does have correction and if i'm correct, its 20% up and 20% down, so there is a 40% correction. So be careful about buying an old DFI system.

That's why we have multiple program chips. Our PSP 4 program chip is one of the most popular chips are the market for Lightnings, because it gives the customer that much more flexability. For customers who live in areas that get under 50 degrees or so, I often get requests for cold and warm weather street programs on one chip. This is nice, because if the temp drops ( or even if you get some bad gas), the first time you hear some slight detonation, you can simply reach over and switch to the cold program.
