Is this possible?

Is it possible to have like an adjustable watse gate like on the Buicks, so we can have a huge pulley and be safe on the street and the unleash at the track?
Just wondering

I think the problem here would be packaging. on a turbo (buick like you mentioned) the wastegate is between the turbo and the throttle body.

on our trucks, the supercharger is bolted directly to the intake plenum. for lack of a better description, the boost is pretty much on top of the motor, there is nowhere to dump it.

that is why the factory bypass is located where it is, on the supercharger housing itself. it dumps boost from the pressurized plenum back up top to the unpressurized side of the blower.

if my understanding is correct, to do what you are talking about you'd have to actually install the adjustable wastegate onto the lower intake manifold or plenum. it just won't fit.

just my .02

Wastegates are used on turbos to limit boost, because a turbo is not directly driven off anything. The impeller is spun by exhaust gas/heat, so with no wastegate you could infinately spin it till your motor reached it's maximum exhaust flow. A blower is driven off the crank, so your boost is limited by how fast you spin it.

Chris, I think you are thinking of a bypass, or blow off as they are called in the turbo world. That's different than the wastegate, which is part of, or connected to the turbo, or installed in the exhaust side if it's a big aftermarket unit.

ah ha... I see i've had a brainfart. I had my wastegates and bypasses all mixed up

oh well, turbo 101. learn something new everyday

so anyway run4bux, the answer still appears to be no, unless somebody can figure out a contraption to dissengage the blower's serpentine belt...

I knew it all along
