Resale value

I just checked on WWW.KBB.COM what my 2002 Lightning might be worth if I sold it to a private party. If I plug in my actual miles (13,500), it says $31,800. And if I plug in low miles (2000) it says $33,000. WTF? How could this be? That second figure is more than it stickered for!

The program it uses has some flaws. Mileage is one of the floating parameters. They give a mileage penalty in 5,000 mile chunks (I think). This penalty ceases at about 80,000. All things being equal, a truck with 80K is worth the same as a truck with 380K.

I guess you found a flaw at the other end, mileagewise.

No dealer that I know of here in NJ uses Kelly Blue Book. Values as you can see are NOT real world accurate. Dealers here use Galves or NADA. Check out nadaguides.com and compare values to KBB.

It's BS. I have found that resale values vary DRAMATICALLY depending on where in the country you are located. Also with the economy being so screwey and interest rates and all of that fluctuating, alot of people are buying new vehicles instead of used to take advantage of manufacturer incentive rates and cash back..

of course lightnings aren't AS affected by this as other vehicles, because SVT isn't offering special incentives on L's at this time.

anyway, it seems as if Lightnings are FAR more valuable out west than they are on the east coast. I have a friend that sells used Lightnings regularly and often for west coast people it is worth the costs of enclosed shipping 3000 miles from Virginia to AZ or CA etc which I believe is normally around $1000+. Buying a used L for east coast prices and then shipping out west seems quite often to be cheaper than and easier than finding an L for a good price out there.

chris

WOW

I'd like to find a dealer that uses nada guides. In Galves my 2001 Z28 is listed as $13000 as optioned and in nada guides its valued at 17,300. Weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would sell my 2002 true blue bone stock (k$n) 14.000 miles for $26.500 good or bad. looks like new. runs 13.39 @104??
Is this about right. Then again I thought about doing some mods I don't know??? If I keep it I need to drive it more to justify having it.
