Thumbs up Test drove a Black '02, Yeah Baby!!!!

Just took a short drive with a pretty decent saleman yesterday. The funny thing was the truck wouldn't start. Dead battery. Anyhow, didn't really get a chance to get on it very hard, but it was nice. I haven't been in anything that rides "normal" since I sold my '92 5.0 LX coupe. A question though. There was a fairly audible marbles in the can noise that was still there, although quieter, after it warmed up. Is this normal? I get the morning noises with the wife's Expy sometimes. Anyhow it all depends on what kind of deal they can do. Really want to get rid of the Taurus. I had somebody ask me the other day what company I worked for, just because of the car. It was embarassing.

Did it make "the noise" while at idle(louder when 'cold'?) or was it only at throttle tip-in, under load, and/or at WOT?

If at idle, then that may be the cam chain tensioners haven't had time to fill up, especially if the oil is still cold. I've never had this noise but you are in a cold weather climate.

If it came under load, then you are hearing pinging/detonation that may be caused by the dealer adding 87 instead of 93 octane fuel or it may also be the colder temps which can lead to leaning out the a/f ratios.

The noise was only at idle. No pinging or odd sound (supercharger, odd to me but oh so sweeeeet) at anything other than idle. Like I said it was quieter after it was up to operating temp.

most L's do that when there cold, its just a normal thing that we all deal with. People have tried all kinds of oil and it nothing really can stop it, you just have to wait for the engine to heat up to operating temp for it to stop.

2 weeks ago i traded my wifes civic in on a used lightning. she took my powerstoke everywhere and i was stuck with the rice burner. i had a 1994 cobra several years ago. the truck is way cooler than that stang. the only thing i regret is that i waited so long to by one. drive it to work or go fry the tires on the weekends. i will never buy a car again!

maybe i could just maybe the forged pistons, ya know they are sloppy in the cylinder walls when they are cold and warm up at different rates.
