How bout we "ALL" list the know Lightning Problems

LET ME RE-PHRASE THIS:

I think it would be extremely helpful in many ways, if we listed the problems each of us is having with our Lightnings.

#1 It could come in handy Proving to a Dealer that lots of people have the same problem.

#2 It could come in handy when selling the Lightning someday, incase anyone notices one of our included extra's like oil injection, the clunk, window gaskets, loose ground effects, etc...

#3 It may also be helpful to explain your not the only one on their 2nd motor and or tranny. Maybe an intercooler, new heads, shocks, etc...

Please understand I love my Lightning more than anything.
I AM NOT BEING NEGATIVE OR POINTING OUT IT’S WEAKNESSES, I truly believe it would be a MAJOR ADVANTAGE for all of us to keep an on going list of the problems each is experiencing. We may be surprised on how many of us have the same problem. I don't know about you, but mine will cost me over 43,000.00 in 6 years when it's paid off.

My gen 2 Lightning problems list.
1 The official eaton rebuilder[Magnuson] sucks azz.
2 Not enough kudos from ls1 owners when stomping them.
3 Stock stereo quality...see no 1
4 Way too much orange peel and a generally schitty paint job.
5 Unwanted oil injection
6 Front end clunk should not exsist..but yet it does.
7 Uneven tire wear..the back two seem to wear a lot quicker.
8 Unannounced plug launching...se no 1.

Ford will probably not help with 1,2,or 7 but overall,i have to say i would buy another one in a "Heartbeat"...pun intended.

Paint

For those of you guys with flawed paint jobs you might want to see what your dealer will do for you. I have a black 2001. It had a bunch of barely noticeable cracks in the paint (not the clearcoat) that looked like white eyelashes. I complained to my local dealey and the entire truck is being repainted as we speak. It might be worth a try.

Where do I start?

1. Excessive rear tire wear.
2. Unusal "whistle" coming from underhood. Loose AC belt maybe?
3. Gas consumption.
4. Very poor offroad. My truck always gets stuck!
5. Seats don't hold up well to passenger ***** stains.
6. Has anyone noticed the price for this hunk of junk?

How've you been feeling boss?

I mean no disrespect by this, but at my local track there is a guy who bracket races a 7 second dragster that is paralized from the waist down. It has a slick hand control setup and is one of the best engineered race cars I've ever seen!! There's always fun and cars no matter what, so don't give up...peace.

The only problem you're going to have is that "all of us" don't have all those problems. Some have had some of the problems and some of those have had Ford fix those problems. Some of us have had none of those problems.

01L, 1-year & 2-weeks old, 14K miles

So far, and in no paticular order:
1. Cracked fog lights, warrantee replaced twice already.

2. Leaking rear window and poor gasket installation, warrantee repaired with new design frame and gasket.

3. Drivers seat padding failure, warrantee replaced.

4. Condensation in tail lights, warrantee replaced.

5. The clunk, warrantee fix with TSB toothed washers lasted 2-weeks, then I fixed it myself with Herbs washers, and cam bolts.

6. Slight pull to the right when new, worse pull to left after TSB clunk fix, Herbs washers and 2-alignments later, still pulls left, they tell me its the tires.

7. Squeeling rear brakes, been to dealer 3-times, still squeeling.

8. Clicking left brake when changing direction, been to the dealer
2-times, still clicking.

9. Sliding rear window latch broke, warrantee replaced whole window, part that broke is glued to glass, new latch kit costs $6 but its next to impossible to get the broke piece off the glass without breaking the glass.

10. Shifter wouldn't stay in Park, warrantee replaced shift cable.

11. White puff of smoke on starup occasionally.

12. Oil in intake.

13. Squeeking tail gate, would you believe there is actually a TSB on this? warrantee adjusted, still squeeking.

14. HUGE 1 1/4"+ gap between front bumper and grille, but at least its even, seen some real crooked ones.

15. Horn low note failed, warrantee replaced.

More to come, Im sure...

I agree with you about the majority not having most problems but all gen 2's have the unwanted oil injection....so do the 4.6 and 5.4 n/a motors.
All gen 2's have the same heads, and it is just a matter of time before a plug is launched.....this also happens on n/a 5.4's and 6.8 v 10's as well as the 4.6's.

Re: How bout we "ALL" list the know Lightning Problems

Well, you've become quite the Lightning expert in no time at all Rob.

but of course you have owned 50 performance vehicles in your life. which by the way would be over two new "performance" cars purchased every year since your 16th birthday. that IS quite impressive.

Maybe you should make a list of the problems that YOU have had. Not "ALL OF US".

yeah right

...my Motor may already be hurt thanks to a clogged fuel filter and 1/2 the Motor going lean and burning 3 plugs. I've seen motor after motor blow up and in LOTS of cases they are 100% stock and showed no sign of weakness before hand...

how is a clogged fuel filter ford's fault? sounds like you bought gas at some place with crap in their in ground tanks. besides that, a clogged filter isn't likely to affect only 3 of your 8 cylinders. Also, Please share EXACTLY how many stock motors you have seen blow up? I'm really curious about this one.

..."ALL OF US".
Please speak for yourself.

In my personal experience, I had only two minor problems: steering clunk (which is stupid and ford should come up with a fix for) and cracked fog lights (which are also stupid, but I only bothered to fix because they were free, not because they were noticeable).

I've never had a bad coil, rough idle, " BREAKS that don't stop and loose vacuum at low speeds", blown shocks?, blown motor or tranny, or any of the other stuff you speak of.

Personally, I loved my lightning, and think that Ford really got this one right. We ask a lot of these trucks and they do their job and then some, that is why I'm buying my second one!

just my .02

later,
chris

I've been a motor head my whole entire life and most of you have scene my list of former performance cars (yes over 50 of them) so I just deleted the list, god knows my post are long enough.

As for my list: I've been lucky so far at under 7000 miles. I've delt with the CLUNK, the bad BRAKES, mine has low VACUMN at low speeds, aka NO BRAKES. The WINDSHIELD GASKET, the noisy ELECTRIC WINDOWS, the MARBLES under the hood, that dam mini man banging on my FLOORBOARDS every day, the MISALIGNED front bumper and exhaust, the NOISY TRANNY when it's in netrual, THE SPARE that doesn't come down, the SQUEAKY seats or what ever the hell that noise inside the cab is, half a engine going lean and burning plugs, the original factory plugs that had a clear defect and crack in one of them. 2 HAND TIGHT PLUGS I caught on my first plug change (thank god). The SLOPPY 2nd gear slide, an ocassional clunk in the DRIVESHAFT, the slow into reverse in the morning blues. The TICKING NOISES on cold starts, the third BRAKE LIGHT mounted on the cab that fell off, the inside REAR WINDOW SEAL thats already dry rotted and broken, the LEAKING tonneau cover, BOLTS that fall off out of nowhere I find in my driveway (I'm starting a collection, someday, I'll figure out where they go)

I Love my Lightning, "THERE'S WAAAY MORE GOOD THAN BAD" not my first SVT, and SURLY NOT MY LAST.

My 12 second '01 has been flawless, well except for Herbs washers I did preventatively. This thing is quicker and faster than my built big block 'Cuda (street tires) and gets 50% better milage. It's more than I bargained for, and I'll have trouble turning it in for an "05. Sure there are things I wish it had, there always are though. built on a Monday to boot.
