Fun weekend at Thunderhill
I caught a few rides this weekend at Thunderhill. What a blast! Yesterday, I rode twice with a very good driver in the Blue group (Nor-Cal Shelby's expert group) who was able to squeeze every bit of performance out of a modified late model Mustang that only put out 200HP at the rear wheels. In essence, he out drove most of the drivers that had 500 HP AC Cobras. Two 02 Panoz GTS's were about even with him until he'd make a small mistake and the lack of power would show.
I also rode in a 96 Dodge Neon (Leon the Neon). The best way to describe it was this: What a HOOT! The entire time, I couldn't stop laughing and smiling because it was so fun, and considering the speed Jan could carry, I was very impressed.
Although yesterday was a thrill, today was the highlight! After leading a 10k run this morning, I drove back up to Thunderhill afterwards and caught a ride with a driver who I made a deal with last night. I got there, suited up and took a WILD FUN FILLED HIGH VOLTAGE "don't know how else describe it" 30 minutes in Sterling Marlin's retired Maxwell House Nascar ride. This car was also in the Blue group, but to give you an idea of his speed, I think he lapped everyone in the field at least once. Part of the fun was playing with the #6 Valvoline car for a few laps - six inches away from another car at speed is soooooo fun. After the ride was over, I talk with the driver for about 20 minutes about details of the course (markers, landmarks, etc.).
What a thrill!!!!!
