Insurance question?
Insurance question?
A few months ago (Jan 2002) someone rear ended my girlfriends car and then took off as she was pulling over. The insurance company had the car visually inspected and found $589 worth of damage. So with her deductible we got a huge $89 check. We are now looking to have the car fixed and were quoted $900+ to have the car fixed. Here’s my question. Will the insurance company cover the rest of the cost now that we have had more then a visual inspection done? Are they required to pay for anything over the $500 even if the original quote that was done was to low? And how long do we have to have the car fixed before it is too late to file the claim?
Thanks for any help

Have you cashed the check? I think once it is signed in some cases it is like a contract. also the shop can get with the insurance and get it "re-estimated. I dented my truck and had to take it to my insurance adjuster, then to a body shop the differance in estimates was over $500 the bodyshop called the insurance adjuster out to the shop and showed why and how it would cost more so insurance paid for it.
Good Luck it should be covered , expessiallly(spelling) since it is HER insurance. Also call her agent direct if there are issues and get them involved with the adjusters tehy have to keep customers the adjusters dont.
sorry for the long post

I believe you are entitled to have it fixed and they are required to pay for it, even if it means going to a shop of there choice.
but like everyone says, once you except payment and sign, that may be lost

Insurance companies cannot force you into going to any shop. Their were laws written about that as it was a common practice years ago. Usually the body shop can contact the adjuster and they can review what needs to be done. The adjuster will either go to the shop to inspect or agree on it over the phone and issue the difference in a check to you. $500.00 seems like a huge difference, when the original estimate was only for $589.00. What did the body shop find that wasn't on the original estimate by the insurance company?
