Just a quick question....what size are the speakers in the doors and in the rear in the 2001's?

I removed the rear's, add'd 2 10's, replaced the front's with Crystal 6 1/2 Component's w/ tweeters and they sound F'n AWESOME!

Glad to see we have a couple usual suspect fans here on the boards, but about the speakers.

Have any of you guys installed your speakers yourself? Is it a difficult job? My friend and I installed a new head unit and my MTX box in a couple of hours. Are speakers feasable? Im looking into some decent 5x7s to accent the increased sound quality.

Thanx

yeah the size is 6x8, but the better speaker makers make 5x7's which will fit just fine, i put Polk Audio 5x7's and yes there is a small difference, (better quality) but it's not any louder because i still have the factory head unit.

yeah sure you can install them yourself, but you have to worry about taking off the door panel and all that, and putting it back, and i think they have to put some kind of an adapter for the better speakers (not sure about that). i have friends that work at Circuit City RoadShop, so i just get it all done there, (i can trust them and they have all the tools and accessories right there).

The front speakers are amazingly easy to replace. The door panels are simple to take off.

For an even better upgrade, you can make a plate out of 1/4" hardboard and just cut it out to the size a little larger than the factory speakers. Drill the holes where the factory speaker mounting holes match up with and then you can put a 5.25" component speaker set in your door. Just cutout the opening for the woofer and the tweeter and your in business. You will also have to find a space to mount the crossover, but this allows you many more choices for speakers. You can even mount a 6.5" speaker in the panel, but you would have to mount a tweeter somewhere else though. I'm currently using KEF 6.5" point source speakers in my Navigator doors (same configuration as a Lightning)and they sound excellent. The Polks are good upgrades and so are the Eclipse 5x7 point source speakers.
