Installed F/T Valve Body, why does 1-2 still feel mushy?
Install might have been the easiest install I've ever done, just unbolt, bolt on. Thanks to Greg and 'ProblemInfected' for directions.
Before now I thought it was chip or torque-reduction related (just had chip reburned for stock shifts), but the 1-2 shift still is very mushy. 2-3 shift is very firm, how it should be. Does this mean the clutch pack is worn down from the chip's shifts? Or possibly torque reduction on the chip program (SH68 E2F)??
Also, before I drained the fluid, and after I put in 8 quarts, I cannot read the marker on the trans. dipstick. The whole thing looks covered in oil. Before the 8th quart, it seemed there was not enough in it. Should I drain some out?
Thanks,
Jacob

i think you may have too much fluid, we just changed mine and i believe i purchased 7 quarts and after 6 i believe it was full,
probably should check it again, but i'm pretty sure it doesn't need 8

yep,
mine was a fluid change though, so some may have still been in the accumalator and such,
if fluid is above the full mark, it is full,
i would say that under normal driving you shouldn't notice a whole lot of shift change, but under w.o.t. you definately should,
drain some fluid and then check it again, and get yourself to the full level.
then take her out and try her again

Make sure you have cycled thru the gears once before you check it.
Then stop the stick 1/2 inch before it is all the way in and read it then ...it will give you an idea how far off it is...
I ended up having to drain some out of mine.. If you have 4x4 pan it is easy.
Wait till its cooled off some and pull plug over drain pan count to 5 and put plug back in check stick and repeat ....
Good luck

HI!... I've got a TRANSGO shift kit installed on it's highest setting plus my SUPERCHIP has it's shift firmness program cranked WAY up over the stock program. All this was done to a WORLDWIDE TRANSMISSIONS "RACE/DUTY" 4R70-W tranny. Here's a vid of how hard it shifts. My tranny holds 14 liters of REDLINE with the addition of my PERMA-COOL tranny cooler and I still have a stock depth pan.

HI!... LightningToGo : Thanks, you should here it hit 2ND gear now after I installed my JDM/KOOKS long tube headers and complete MAGNAFLOW S/S exhaust system. It really woke my truck up. Here's me "slightly" warming up my tires at ST.THOMAS dragway on a very cold (40 DEGREE'S) day!
I'm hoping to run high 13's (N/A) next time out to the strip in the SPRING.

OK, I drained some out and got it within the hot marks....Could over-filling cause the sluggish 1-2 shift? I'll drive it tomarrow when its not raining and see if that could have caused it.
Could the chip be the cause of a mushy 1-2 shift and a hard 2-3 shift? Torque reduction or something? 4 cyl cutout? Anyone know if JDM's chips have either of those when burned for stock shifts?
There are some differences from truck to truck, some get rubber on the 1-2 and some don't, and you could have some wear on the intermediate clutches, whcih is very common especailly if the truck was chipped prior to having the valve body installed.
Just to make sure, shoot me an address and I'll replace the accumulator, put the new one in and see if it's any better, I can give the 1-2 a little extra pop for you.
Jusat curious, did you notice if the vlave body you installed is an F8 model or a 2C, it was written on the valve body by my signature, and on the box label. I quit making the F8, the 2C is a slight improvement I made for the 02's but is fully compatible with any Gen 2 Ligithning. If you have the F8, I think you'll like the 2C better. In my own truck I can't really tell the difference, but in some trucks it's much better.
Also, what pan are you using?
Let me know,
G
