Good question cause i don't know. I thought it was just the seal that goes around the crank where the case slips over the crank but i poped off the harmonic balancer and i saw a little crack. Once i got the case off i found that.


That pic is takin from the inside of the timing chain cover as you can see on the right is the crank sensor

Tell me your Crank didnt cause that. About the same size as the gear on the front of the crank isnt it?

it is a timing chain cover and here is the front side:

Could the cracks be from a non-caged lower pulley?

Is that a JohnDeere tractor in the background? Looks like my fathers 1967 model 112.

No way thats from a uncaged pulley you would have way more problems if you had that kind of play between your crank and berrings. Must be a bad casting or to much pressure aplied when the seal was inserted. That sucks man.

I just looked at mine and I think that maybe over tightening the lower accessory drive pulley too much you could cause the cover to crack as yours did.
