Sliding rear window latch broke
Sliding rear window latch broke
Has anybody had their latch for the rear sliding window break?
If so, how did you fix it?
Mine broke today, so I thought no big deal, and stopped by the dealer and picked up a replacement latch kit for $6 bucks. Problem is there were no instructions on how to remove the broken part from the glass or put the new one on. I went to the service department and asked if anyone there knew how to do this, but they said that usually they just replace the window.
Just curious now, as I have an appointment on Monday for a new rear window courtesy Mr. Ford's warrantee.
I also get to take the kit back & get my money back.
Anybody have any ideas on how to remove the glued on part from the glass and put the new one on?

The "assistant" service manager, told me it wasn't covered. I raised hell and even got the part number from another dealer. It ends up the kid put in the wrong part number.
They are going to replace it tomorrow. I'm just a little steamed that I had to gripe at them for 2 days to fix it.

What is the part number for the latch kit? Mine broke a few weeks ago and I am way out of warranty (96K miles). I would like to know how to go about replacing the latch with out having to replace the window since it would cost a lot more than $6.
Thanks

The latch is held on with a cheap silicon ... heat it up ad pry it off. Use glass glue to stick the new one on.
If you have window tint becareful heating it up, as the tint will bubble or peel from too much heat.

I don't remember the part number, but at the time the local dealer had no problen finding it in the computer.
All, FYI:
I'm on my 3rd rear window courtesy of the broken latch and faulty weather stripping syndrome. Warranty is almost over...

I had a car that the mirror fell off twice.
I lost the little metal peace that goes on the glass so I went and bought a whole new mirror at checker or someplace.
It came with that special glass glue and I put it on like the directions said.
A few weeks later I found that little metal peace and wanted to put the old stock mirror back on. I figured it would be easy to take of that cheesey checker job off. So put a screwdriver up against it and hit it with the palm of my hand.
It came off all right but left a big starburst crack the size of a quarter.
The good part is, I new where to put the old one back on
Don't use a lot of force!
