Question Old Oil???

How does everyone dispose of their used oil and filter and how about coolant and transmission fluid?

Toss the filter after draining it, and take the old oil to Discount Auto or Autozone for free disposal. Same with tranny fluid.

Not sure on the antifreeze...

autozone is the only place? all you do is take your draining pan or what?

cause i usually drain it all in the pan, than poor it back into the bottles that the new oil came in, than put in it the box and throw it away (i know that wrong but i didnt know about the other thing)

Any auto parts place normally has an oil recycling tank where you can drop off your used oil. its part of that whole cleaner/greener thing.

Sad thing is I remember when they used to spray it on dirt roads to keep the dust down... heh

Any container that doesn't slop over in your truck or on their floor. I have seen 5 gallon buckets, old bleach bottles, and in my case, a drain pan with screw on lid. You could bring it in a big plastic bag or an eye dropper if it tweaked your fancy, so long as you can dump it into the tank.

There is a creek behind my house. Don't tell anyone, but the easiest thing to do is dump it in the creek. The fish and birds don't seem to mind and I don't have to make a trip to Autozone.

Curbside recycling here in Portland takes care of used oil

Anything else has to be taken to the hazardous waste drop-off at the waste disposal place, but even that is still free.

Post Convenience Centers

Around here we have convenience centers for recycling and general garbage disposal. That's where I take mine to unless I happen to be going to the parts store, then it goes along with me. <rant> Even with FREE garbage collection facilities people still have the audacity (or is it laziness) to litter. That's one thing that pi$$es me off to no end. <end of rant>

Easterisland, You sure do like to stir the pot, but I bet when you take the birdseed out to your feeders, those little birdies land right on your shoulder.

I don't, but. Is there any difference between throwing synthetic oil in the garbage and plastics or milk jugs?
