Just Picked up My L!

Daaaaammmmn this thing is bad! Im not new to these boards by a long shot but I figured I would change my screen name to match my ****** and Ford Truck World . I'll post some pics when I get my hands on my friends digital camera. I have to get the "clunk" fixed and change my shocks real soon. Any recomendations?

You can fix it yourself by tightening the hell out of the lower contol arms on the passenger side.

Thanks, I was looking for a recomendation on drop shocks. I have heard the duestech (spelling?) are real nice. I had a set of BellTech's Nitro Active drop shocks on my last f-150, they were good but I was wondering if there is anything better. So does the "clunk" make a horrid streching type of sound as well as the obviouse clunk noise? I was thinking that maybe it is the shocks. The person I bought it from left the stock shocks on after the drop, Im sure that was a retarded thing to do so Im replacing them no matter what real soon.

First what kind of drop???

Since it is already dropped it has the cam bolts for proper alignment (I'd hope), so get a set of slotted washers from Herb or DL, install them and get an aligment and you done with the clunk.

For shocks, I'd recommend the HAL QA1's, pricey but worth it. If you don't want to spend that much then depending on the drop you could use others such as the Nitro shocks.

its a 3/4 drop, I have to check to see if it has cambers. I would think it would since the wheels dont bow at all. I had the napa cambers on my last truck so at least I have the part # if I need them. Where can I check out the shocks your talking about? And how much is a lot? over 300?

I'd upgrade to the 01-03 L 90mm MAF if you want more quickness. Upgrade the chip too if you do the MAF.

How much will the 90mm do in comparison to what I have? Oh and does anybodies boost gauge go to 10lbs? My manuel says 8lbs but my gauge goes to 10. The pullys are stock and so is the gauge cluster.

* The clunk....... is one of two things. The bolt sliding around in the lower drivers side a-arm at parking speeds. Or two it is the steering stops. Fords fix I believe is tighten down the bolt and grease the stops. You can get Herb's washers over on NLOC or some from JLP for a little cheaper. You can go even cheaper buy just tightening it down (might work) or tack weld that f''''''er in place. My vote is the large tack weld, cheap, works the same, and the welds can be ground off it is ever needed.

* Shocks......seems like QA-1's are the best and had from Ruslow on NLOC. They are expensive @ ~$140 per shock. A cheaper route is Doetsch Tech Nitro Slammers or new Doetsch Tech 9 way adjustables. The 9 ways are new and I have heard there is a few issues with them. I've talked to other L owner's running the Doetsch's and they recommend them but they are not adjustable. DJY on here and other boards has a bad a** L and has gone through I think fours sets of shocks, he said Doetsch's are one of the best.

* Boost, it's not un-common to hit the 10psi mark on the stock gauge with a stock truck and cone filter. The question is, how reliable is that gauge?

* Intercooler recall, was it done? Hope so.

*90mm Mass Air, don't worry about it until you mod your truck and run more boost.

Onelfastlride I'd have to say that you hit everything on the nail! However I haven't see 10psi on my boost gauge either (Stock and Aftermarket) even though I'm too nervous to look at the thing anyways!
