Drop Shackle question... need advice
Drop Shackle question... need advice
I called the local truck place today, and it will cost about $150 to install the shackles. Should I pay this?
Keep in mind, I have no mechanical experience at all. The only time I've ever removed a wheel is for a flat. I don't really know anyone who could help me with this either.
Is this something that someone with -NO- experience... could do alone?
Should I pay this, or look around more?

It is pretty easy, but it does require jacking up the truck and could be dangerous I suppose. Do you have any friends who have done something similar that might be able to help you? Where are you located?
150 is kinda high..should be an hour job for a pro shop..think it took me an 1 1/2 hours just cause we couldnt figure out how to jack up truck high enough..I would think MAYBE 2hours labor max so at the very most 90-120

I am going to walk you through this. This is way to easy to pay $150 for.
I have done this to 5 trucks already.
Here ya go.
Take off your spare(do not have to but it gives you a lot more room(
If you have a hitch then put a jack under the hitch and jack up the truck a couple inches.Keep the wheels on the ground.
You will need a 21mm deep socket on a 1/2 inch rachet and a 21 mm wrench. That is it.
Get under the truck and take the nuts off the bolts. The top bolt you only need the socket.Do not pull the bolts out yet.
Now get an old towel fold it up and put it between the shackle and the bed.Now pull out the bottom bolt(it will have tension so will have to socket it out).It will release the spring a little but the towel will soften the impact.
Now take the towel out and remove the top bolt(you will have to push the spring up a little) and shackle.(remembering how you took it out).
Now reverse the process putting the new shackle back in.You want to use the farthest hole to get the biggest drop.
Do the same on the other side.
This should take about 1/2 hour for a rookie. There is no danger being under the truck because you never lifted it off the ground and you will have a great satisfaction(besides a fatter wallet) that you did this yourself.
Hope this helps.
This is definately a do it yourselfer.

Did it yesterday myself,
Ya like V said. Start to finish @ 30-40 minutes.

"YES I KNOW THEY'RE BACKWARDS"
But thats the way mine came out, so thats the way I put them back in. Feels great, handles great, lowered it right where I wanted it. IT'S ALL GOOD....
