difference between x plan, a plan, and invoice

ok,

having a discussion on what dealers actually pay

i know anyone should be able to get invoice just by being stubborn,

then you have x plan which is less - how much?

then a plan which is even less - how much?

what does the dealer actually pay though?

below invoice, they have to right?

I believe that X-Plan is 4% over invoice, and A-Plan is either invoice, or just above invoice. I don't remember if thats totally right, but its something to that effect.

There isn't an exact figure for all Ford vehicles regarding a plan, x plan, etc. As a general rule, a-plan is always the cheapest, and is usually a few hundred dollars less than the "base" invoice price (without destination fee). The x-plan price is a few hundred less than the "full" invoice price (with destination fee).

It really depends on the vehicle, for the trucks have much more markup than the cars do. Although the Cobra has a similar MSRP as the Lightning, they cost $3000 more than the Lightning under the a-plan.

The good thing is that the dealer will still honor rebates on top of the discount plans. Therefore some vehicles could get another $1000-2000 off the "plan" price. The dealer cost is below the invoice, and sometimes way below. Don't worry, dealers always get money somewhere in there.

I thought X plan was 4% over A plan plus $150. Just be happy to get it, lots of dumb souls pay full price.

It's vehicle specific but A plan is usually 4 - 5% below invoice. X-plan is usually 4% above A plan. My wife works for Ford Credit. Pricing on my 2001 L was as follows per the invoice:

A plan: $27,682.00

X plan: $28,789.28

Invoice: $29086.00

Dealer should not charge X or A plan buyers the $120.00 doc fee. In April or sometime around then of this year Ford started charging the $150 fee mentioned in the post above. That is only for X-plan buyers. Does not affect A plan. Dealers are compensated the difference between the A or X plan price and the invoice.

there is only one invoice unless the dealer just fabricates a fake one. they usually don't go around showing off the originals anyway or else everybody would want "just over invoice". there is no set percentage for a/x/d etc, it depends on the profit margin in the vehicle (ex: a Focus has significantly less markup/profit margin than a Navigator so there is less room to discount).

anyway, here is invoice on a 2003 Cobra.

Sticker: $34,750

X-plan: $32,445

Invoice: $32,279

A&D plans: $31,052

holdback: $994

hope this helps.

later,
chris

How many times have you had a salesman pull out an invoice and say, "$100 over invoice"? I have seen it happen to me many times over the past 20 yrs buying cars. Now I am not naive enough to think that a dealer can survive selling cars for $100 over what they pay for them. So I don't know where these "invoices" come from, but I have seen them with my own eyes. I was allways happy to get a couple grand off sticker, but now that I have a X-plan pin number that will change

In addition to "holdback" the Dlr also gets compensated for accepting "A","Z","D",and "X" Plans.
An A,Z,OR D Plan usually pays about $1500.X plan pays $700-$800.
So a dealer IS better off taking a "Plan" as opposed to Selling at invoice or a couple hundred over.
And on an average Every car on the lot cost $7-$8 per day to the bank for "flooring"
Can't blame them for not selling @ invoice or not accepting plans,I work for a very large Dlr and we will only see 12-15 "L"s a yr.
Just the electric bill for one of these places can run $50-$60k per mo.!!
