How close do you guys think my stang would come to running with my L?
Hey guys,
I just put my 89 LX coupe in the shop to have some GT40 Y aluminum heads and a Cobra intake installed..I'm very curious and anxious to see how much improvement it should make over what I had. It's basically close to stock aside from a K&N filter, pulley system, 190 fuel pump and 3.73 gears, headers and off road hpipe. The car also is a 5spd. A buddy of mines thinks I would have to run a cam or at least the 1.7 Roller Rockers to at least run with my 99 L. Assuming a good running car and driver what do some of you Lightnings/Mustang enthusiast think?

BTW.. Has anyone in the Georgia area ever heard of a performance shop called MVperformance?

I dunno guys....There are some Mustangs with less mods running in the 11s. It all depends on the overall package. The 89 LXs run low 14s stock. The 93 Cobras had basically the same upgrades as he's running, weighed 200 lbs more, and ran mid 13s. With some drag radials, mid to low 13s should be no problem. That's about the same as a 99 or 00 L with a chippnfilter.
the stock cam actually is not that bad.
I have a stock headed/intaked mustang with an e-cam, the cam did help (pulls a bit harder and to higher rpm) but the drivabilty can not match the stock cam, especially when its cold out and the car is cold.
Let us know if mustang will run with your Lightning as my next step is to either do heads and intake or get rid of the mustang all together and buy a Lightning. (trying to stay away from the debt of the Lightning but the temptation is strong, a cam helped cure the temptation for about a day but thats it)

FUNNY THING WAS WHEN I WENT TO THE PERFORMANCE SHOP THATS DOING THE WORK ON MY STANG..WHEN THEY SAW MY TRUCK, ONE OF THE TECH GOES.."IF I WERE YOU, I'D PUT THAT STANG IN THE DRIVEWAY ON BRICKS AND MOD THE HELL OUTTA THE TRUCK"..
