Can anyone recomend a dealer in the bay area?

Hi all I am new to your forum.

Lately I decided I needed a light duty truck for weekend duty. I was originally considering an access cab tundra, then I decided I would buy a trailer for my landcruiser and with the money I saved, pick up a used z06. I liked the idea of a crew cab, but even a 6-seater won't accommodate my entire family so there is not that much benefit to me. Now, as you may have guessed, I am contemplating the lightning. I can do some light hauling (e.g. topsoil and a sheet or two of wood, plants and shrubs) and I can get my speed fix.

What I am wondering, is if anyone can direct me to a good, ok I will settle for descent, dealer in the bay area. I have called a handful in and around the east bay and I was not impressed with their lack of knowledge on this vehicle.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

Try Frontier Ford in San Jose. They will have the L, but as with anything in the bay area - it will be over-priced!

Towne Ford in Redwood city has always been good to me. I have purchased three new cars & my L from them.

I'd recommend Towne Ford or Serramonte Ford in Colma.

Frontier and Serramonte Ford are both good SVT dealers. Both are also very involved in supporting the SVTOA. Meetings rotate between the two dealerships every month. You might swing by a meeting and check it out and meet some of the employees. There's a few salesmen that attend and I don't think you'll be disappointed with their knowledge.

ANYWHERE BUT FRONTIER FORD......

I have had nothing but problems with them on the few occassions that I had to have my vehicles serviced. They routinely leave grease on the steering wheel / seats, they scratched my wife's Expedition in several locations, etc..... AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I purchased my second L from Magnusson (sp?) in Fremont, and I have been happy with them so far....

Good luck......

Dave,

Sorry to hear about your problems with Frontier. I've never used their service dept. I've only used Serramonte. And come to think of it, i've only had a need to go there once and that was for the intercooler recall. Knock on wood.

Is your truck back on the road yet?

Ditto about Frontier Ford. Unless you want to pay 5k-10K over msrp on a Lightning, knock yourself out.

They wanted 10k over when I bought my truck in 2001. I went to Magnusson Fremont ford and paid msrp.

Thanks for the input all. I am hoping not to pay over MSRP. I know some local chevrolet dealers are still trying to get over MSRP for a new corvette, and yet I can find plenty of out of state dealers via the corvette forum who are 6k under MSRP now.

I was hoping that I could find, if not as good, descent deals from dealers who are affiliated with this forum.

I will call some of the dealers you guys have mentioned and go from there. Sounds like frontier may not be a choice given that two people posted their negative experiences.

If I were to buy a another Lightning or any SVT, I would look outside the bay area. I have been to a few SVT dealerships around the bay area including Towne Ford and Serramonte and they all wanted at least 5k over MSRP for the Lighting & Cobra. Im sure you may be able to haggle with them but good luck getting X-plan. It may be a pain to travel but the price savings is worth it if you have the time...

What areas do you think I should search in, and would it be a significant savings?

Thanks,
Scott

Call Leo Libiran @ 650 755 7007. He's a salesman at Serramonte Ford. He owns an '02 Lightning. I believe he told me a few weeks ago that they're selling Cobra's at or within a grand of MSRP. I only know him thru SVTOA, so it's not like he's a relative or anything, lol. I'm sure he could hook you up with a fair price on an L.

Good luck

I bought my Lightning back in February 2002. I called every dealer in the Bay Area and Sacramento. I was being picky and wanted a True Blue. (which was rare at the time) They were willing to deal on black or red.

Fremont Ford sucks!

All the other dealers would not budge from sticker. The dealerships away from bay area only have a small number of lightnings so they won't deal.

The fleet manager told me that he can easily sell a Lightning for 5k over sticker so he won't haggle.

I ended up buying mine from a dealer in Anaheim.

My suggestion would be to use the internet and phone and get the X plan pricing.

You might want to try Hayward Ford, I've taken my truck there for service.

No help in the North Bay area. Hansel Ford in Santa Rosa has no L's, and wants $5+K over MSRP if they did.

Good Luck!
