Tim Colwey's rough idle diagnosed! Ouch!!!
Tim brought his Lightning over for some help on a really rough idle problem. We started disconnecting coil packs till we found one that didnt change the idle when disconnected. Look at this Denso IT22!!!! WTF? Any body have any ideas what happened? This was on the #7 cylinder.
I new it was a plug.
My opinion, I believe all L owners that have mods should check and/or change their plugs at least every 5,000 miles.
Skank, make sure Tim tightens those plugs nice and tight. I know he doesn't want to see any holes in his nice cowl hood.

I heard detonation about a week ago , but I let off as soon as I noticed it. J.D I think your the only one that said plugs. Do you belive I could not tell it was misfiring? I could only tell in 3rd gear. Thats a bad boy! This new JDM chip is also a bad boy!
So I have a question for the plug burners out there, which plug(s) would you check. I mean obviously all plugs should be checked sooner than later, but what about an occasional check? Does for example the #7 plug usually look the worst?
Looks much better than the two plugs that were pulled from the passenger side..the two inside cylinders. Mine leaned out due to a ****ty head gasket install...and or out of spec on head and deck flatness...any way at 130 it ceased to pull...started vibrating and shaking on light throttle....the plugs were ate up..including the ceramic on one. The head itself had extreme pitting around one of the plug taps. The rings were damaged....hope yours are OK.
I had the IT 20's in at the time...New Long block....if you run high speed get your tuner to pull some timing and add fuel for top speed runs...might help....Mine did.
Good luck......I run a 160 degree hypertech thermostat to help with heat...and I load up on toluene when I know for sure I will be running high speed. I run a 3" pulley. I have noticed a lot of Denso's doing this....seems like more so than other plugs....I still feel I get more and smoother power from the Denso plugs. Truck idles smoother and pulls much harder in the upper RPM's in overdrive.....

Tim I had to have both of my chips on my 2000(gone)and 2001 redone to a less aggresive setting with the gas we have around here. Texaco is the best we can get and it still wanted to detonate, and if you've never dealt with blowers before and don't have a real good ear for it,it is hard to tell. Most of mine was real light and 90 percent of the people would never know until it was to late.
With the 6 lb pulley and all my other mods I use a California program. I'd rather give up a few ponies for no worries. One day I'm going to have it dyno tuned to get the best results for my truck.
p.s My truck with no chip and all my mods including pulley ran extremely well. Wish I'd known that A/F ratio

I try and use nothing but Texaco. But on the way back from a Talon meeting in Dallas I had to stop and use a cheaper 93 octane. I used it all up because I hate that stuff in my motor. I have to do a little work this week for traveling money to Viginia and this weekend I will pull the rest. I will post pics if their bad. I hate to switch from Densos. When I first put them in , the throttle response sold me. Dougs plugs still have the insulaters , so thay may be the way to go, it would keep me changing the plugs very often.
