I've had Benzes and I have a Lightning. All of that supposed engine technology in the Benzes is, IMHO, worthless. Benzes still need to be rebuilt about the same as other engines, and when you do, DAAAMMMMNNN. The parts costs are astronomical.

What good is reliability if it costs you four times as much in parts for an engine which only lasts twice as long (if you're damn lucky)? I mean, I had to replace the valves in my Benz one time. $80 each. I replaced the valves in my bug the same year for less than $80 for all.

I would buy another Benz for the solid body and superb handling. Engine reliability--a nonstarter in my book. By the time you need a rebuild, your wallet is so drained from $1,200 water pumps and $700 headlights that the car is headed for the classifieds.

My $0.02.

BTW, I'd bet my last dollar on a twin-screw '05 L. Twin screws are both true compressors (like an centrifugal) and positive displacement blowers (like a Roots). Absolutely perfect for the L.
