Rear-ended! ...What defines a totaled vehicle??
It does look bad...but it doesn't look deadly and at least you and your daughter are ok. I still think you should just try to get whatever you can from the insurance company and get a new truck. '03 Sonic Blue? My reason is this is going to be a lot of work and repainting. And remember...your frame has been damaged and won't hold up the same in the next crash if it were to be more serious than this one. Just my 2 cents.
MaxPower,
Sorry to read about your truck getting crunched, but I'm glad to read you and your daughter are alright.
I would recommend you get ready for a real battle with the insurance companies.
I have had the displeasure of being involved in more than my share of vehicle accident situations in the past 2 years and here is what i have experienced.
If the repair hits 80% of LIKE REPLACEMENT value(meaning for a 2001 not a brand new 2003), they will call it totaled.
Here is what will tick a person off. Just for the sake of grabbing a number out of the air...lets say the replacement for a LIKE vehicle is 20K...that is what they will want to pay. Now if you owe the bank 20K...they get payed, you get screwed.
This is typically what the insurance folks will TRY to get away with.
They don't seem to care about how much you have paid for the truck. These situations can get real crappy with a newer truck since it will start to depreciate the second it is driven off the lot.
Don't accept the first offer they make and you might be able to squeeze another 10% aove their offer out of them.
Maybe you should start thinking about seeing a Doc about that whip lash....that may get you some bonus points
Rocks
