Well, I guess I'll bring this to the top again. I plan on removing all of this tubing. I will use a breather on each valve cover and plug up all holes in the intake and the hole in the lower intake.

This is what I think all of the tubing is for. please post something if this is not the case.
I think that the pcv works because of the vacuum when it is connected to the upper intake plenum. Ford knew that oil would be drawn from the pcv into the upper plenum, down through the blower and eventually rest in the lower intake. In order to get rid of the oil they connected a tube so the oil would be drawn from the lower intake to the upper intake again to mix with the air, lower the octane, and be burnt during combustion.

easterisland: I tried putting breathers on both cam covers and on the oil filler. I blocked the PCV with a 7/16" ball bearing. I went back to just an oil filler breather as oil was forced out onto the cam covers and smelled bad when it ran down onto the manifolds.

Was it on the 2001? Maybe I'll have to cut the holes in the valve cover a little bigger and get the no drip moroso breathers...

I would recommend not yanking off random parts off your truck. Most of them are there for a reason so I agree with the other guys...Leave it alone -

I tell you what, if you tell me why those tubes are essential for operation of the truck I will leave them on. I don't believe they are necesary for operation of the truck and removal will cause no problems.
I've yanked nearly everything off the truck at one point or another.
suspension, brakes, engine, transmission, interior, nothing has been left alone.

the pcv system is designed for pollution reasons - plugging it off allows oil vapour to enter the atomosphere (where as it would have been burnt or cooled and turned into oil to sit in the intercooler), it also creates a constant flow through the engine which helps remove moisture, toxins and crap that are created by blow by in the cyl, etc. biggest reason it was done initialy was early in like 72 when emissions started to come into play but there are some benifits.

you may also notice less oil in the intake if you dont drive while under boost (the pcv valve closes while under boost and high manifold pressure which causes the pcv valve to close which intern causes the tube (normally air input from intake) on the pass side to turn into the vent (output) instead of the intake

changed your oil more now, you may also notice sludge in your oil due to the extra mosture (especially if you only drive short distances)

BTW I thinks I'm right on most of this but if not besure to correct me, btw the pcv valve is a calibrated valve (calibrated airflow at idle, most flow durring cruise, no or very low flow at wot (high manifold pressures)(low vac) pcv= emission, longer oil life, potential for longer engine life

Yep, not essential for the engine operation. I doubt my engine will last 20K miles so i'm not too worried about the longer engine life thing. Less oil is a good thing which is one reason the breathers are going in.
