Another Volant update.
Another Volant update.
I wrote volant about my problems with their air kit, and just received a reply. What do you guys think? I feel a little wary of just sending off the kit I'm not using, but could probably sell. I've heard a few of you guys mention sending in for trades to various other vendors, and never getting anything back, including your old kit.

I bought one of your kits for my 2001 Lightning through Truck Performance Center about 6 months ago. Since the '99-'00 Lightnings have a smaller MAF and fender well opening, I called and asked if the kit was designed for the smaller openings. I was told that it was designed for the newer style Lightning ('01-'02); but, it would work on all models. This made perfect sense; so, I ordered one. It was a lie. It is designed for the 80mm MAF and not the 90mm MAF. The guy, apparently, told me what was required to sell the piece. I did not realize this right away. When I got it, I installed it; and, it seemed fine. I even gave it favorable reports on the Lightning forum I am a member of. Here's a link:

When I started getting SES codes, I determined I wasn't getting enough air. Since this was the only kit you had available, I tried to make it work by modifying it slightly. Nothing I did could overcome the restriction at the fender opening. The filter in the kit blocks incoming air from the too narrow intake neck on the fender side off the box. Here are a couple of links to posts I made as a result of the problems:

I heard a rumor that you have resolved the issues with the kit and was wondering if you intend to make good and replace the kits that were sold to owners of vehicles that the kit wasn't designed for? I still have the kit and would like to trade it for an intake that works. Thank you.
Roger
