Lightning Open Heart Surgery (pics inside) Cab Removed engine access

Hi guys, I posted some pics of this job on a different Silver L a while back, but here are some new ones from today.

I didn't get started until late this afternoon, so I haven't started taking the engine apart yet, but here are the pics of the cab being removed.

I think that there are alot of new guys around here since I showed this last.

I am putting a cylinder head on the truck because it blew a plug out.

Before you ask:

NO, this is not how you HAVE to do this job, you can pull the head while everything is still together, but in my opinion it is a PITA, and honestly it really isnt' that hard and doesn't take that long to remove the cab and it saves a lot of headache trying to contort me and my tools around under the hood. A little extra easy work to prevent a lot more hard work.

I'll post some dissassembly pics tomorrow. have a good evening.

later,
chris

That sure would make changing my spark plugs a lot eisier! Where can I get one of those lift-your-cab-off-the-frame tool things?

believe it or not... ONLY 6!

four go down from the inside (two behind the seats under the cargo box thing, and two under the front floor mats)

plus two more in front go upwards beside the radiator support

That's what I was thinking too. Probably easier and faster to remove the few bolts holding the entire cab on than the 8 spark plugs themselves!!!

believe it or not that pulley is only a #2!

back in the day (like a year and a half ago ) that was all that you could get!

all the same, this truck has run some mid/high 12.60's with just #2 and a chip and filter!

as for changing the plugs or anything else for that matter... the funny thing is that working at a rediculously slow pace (work is DEAD right now, so no real rush) pulling the cab only took about 2 hours! I haven't done one of these in 6 months or more, if you did them with any regularity I have no doubts that you could remove a regular cab in 45 minutes tops. Either way, not worth it for just spark plugs, but for a job like this, I think the ease of access to EVERYTHING makes it worth it. Of course you still have to reinstall the cab afterwards...

later,
chris
