Truc Traks question?

SCCA is running two day regional event in Lexington
this weekend at UK Stadium. I just installed Truc Traks
for the strip in Bowling Green last weekend.

What are the implications of running the "twisties" with
them on the truck?

I was thinking of running DAY 1 with 'em and DAY 2
without 'em ... ???

Comments? Specially from RUSLOW or other ROAD RACERS.

Thanks In Advance ...

Cliff

I really do not think the truk traks will do anything on the curves...or at least I think.....I dont see how they could aid anything.....IMO..........

My thinking was if the springs are weighted heavily (2g's+)
in some of the turns, the Tracs maybe won't let the springs
travel enough ( the front slapper would "bottom out" )

I will let y'all know what I find out by experimentation....

Why wouldn't they help under hard acceleration, out of a turn for instance? Why not try them , can't see how it would hurt. It'll be fun no matter what.

I would think they would help.......because by 'bottoming out'....they are stiffening up that side of the susp.......maybe making it corner harder.....instead of compressing completely......

After I installed the Lakewood bars, it cornered better.

Why? Aren't they all the same in principle? Slappers have
been around since "I" was a kid ... (A very LONG time, as
Crasyone is wont to tell ya!)

PS... This seems a bit more complicated that my simple 15 minute
install at the motel in Bowling Green

Well I got the Metco bars installed on Saturday.

First the review:
They work GREAT. Wheelspin is greatly reduced and the truck feels solid. No impact on suspension travel or feeling. They work about as well as Truck-Traks worked on my stock spings.

The bars look amazing, all grade 8 hardware, massively over engineered. Definetely a pro piece

Now about the install:
sigh. It was an amazing pain. Hopefully it won't be for others (I'm talking to Metco on Monday)

First off: The passenger side support bracket didn't fit around my exhaust (long tubes with single muffler silver-bullet). I had to cut out a gusset to get it to fit.

Next: I wasn't sure how the spring eye bolt was supposed to go in, but with the support bracket installed, one end is inaccessible. I chose to cut the bolt a bit so that I could install it with the nut facing outward. (cutting big grade 8 bolts what fun)

Then: The rear u-bolts are designed to fit with the stock springs (4 leaf) and not the Hotchkis (2-leaf). Out comes the cutter again. Due to te design of the bracket, the bolts must be limited in length.

Then! The rear U-bolt nuts are almost impossible to tighten. With a 22mm thin-wall swivle, you MAY be able to tighten them. Otherwise it's the classic socket on sideways deal (and tightening to 80ft-lbs)

Finally: The instructions were lacking. They were very clear, but obviously written for someone who knows wat they are doing. I really like idiot proof instructions that I can check every couple of steps instead of master instructions that I have to know to insert steps...

I just want to say again how great Metco is and how amazingly well they work once I got them on. I'll update the thread once I've talked to them about them problems I hit.

Coldie

Hey SVT_KY,

I like the way the Metco's attach to the frame. Thought they would help you beter with cornereing then the Truck-Tracs.. If your happy with the Truck-Tracs, then that's cool..

I had a pinion snubber on for about a week, my truck bounced up and down with it installed. I could never get it adjusted right.
