boost guage gearing

is it possible to change the gearing (is there any gearing???) in the boost gauge so that it reads in twice the range, VAC - 20PSI ? would rather not install an aftermarket gauge, if it is possible to allow the stock gauge to handle 20 psi. or any other ideas... does the needle even use a gear? i assume it works the same as the speedo, off some sort of saw-tooth type gear... am i right? if so, what size gear would i need to use ?

I dont think anyone needs to treat him like chit. He asked a question, why give attitude about it? Either answer the post of just move on.

Anyhow, the gauge isnt geared. It just isnt silkscreened for more #'s. Just spend the extra $$ and purchase a dual or triple gauge pod for the pillar and place after market gauges in there.

It is most likely an internal bellows style gauge and would be nearly impossible (other than going to your local gauge maker/calibrator) to change. Save your self the headache and heart ache and just install an after market gauge.

THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!!!

it's not the money... its more the fact that i am trying to keep a "stock look". if it is possible, i think i am going to try it... so i just need to find someone that can calibrate gauges, and they should be able to change it for me?

Maybe its possible to put the guts of an aftermarket gauge on the back of the gauge cluster. I dont know though how well the markings on the front would be matched though.

Yes and No.

Think about the backlighting on the guage for a moment. The odds of finding someone who can even calibrate that gauge and silkscreen the additonal #'s is going to be slim to none.

I would just mount an additional gauge somewhere else in the cabin, perhaps even hidden somewhere. Otherwise, you will just have to live with the stocker.

I wont have a problem getting the numbers changed, if i even take it that far. i might just have the gauge range taken to 20psi and leave the silkscreening alone. but if i did that, all i would do is have the 10 changed to a 20. (which i can do, i own/operate a commerical printing company and can get silk screening pretty cheap from a supplier). but it is not worth having the number chang
ed, i think i would just like to find a price on getting the gauge re-cal for 20psi...

Maybe get a boost gauge that mounts on the steering column if you want that "sleeper" look. Personally, I think it would be very custom and cool to re-do the factory gauges, say a 175 MPH speedo along with the custom boost gauge, and even a 6500 rpm tach for those with built motors. Very cool, indeed.

Aren't our boost gauges electrical? If you just want to double it, find out what measurements it uses (volts?), and put in a resistor to halve it. Change the number to 20, and your're good to go. One caveat...the stock gauges are notoriously inaccurate, and this will likely exacerbate the problem. It also will only go half as far into the vacuum area.
