Looking for true clear corner taillights
Looking for true clear corner taillights
I'm looking for the clear taillights as seen in this month's Truckin' magazine on a white f150. Not altezza style lights, but straight up white ones with no red in them what so ever. Does anyone know where I can get them??
I'm sure you already know but I'll say it anyway's, unless you put red bulbs in them you will be pulled over IMMEDIATELY. This is why they are not being made anymore because cops are real *****s about these kind of lights. Very difficult to get a way with these on ur truck, they do look great though!
I have found a set like in the pics below, but not shure if the would look good on a white truck. On the black truck they look great. Are these lights legal? I know its not a lightning, but you all seem to have very good tast when it comes to things.

Clear tailights are illegal here and thank god, because they are the gayest and most dangerous things on earth.

The bulbs that are supposedly RED are infact painted blubs. They emit less the HALF the amount of light opposed to a clear bulb behind a red lens.
During the day, you can BARELY see them. At night they are easier to see, but are hardly bright or ruby red in color. Infact they look pink.
If you get in an accident because of them, guess what? You will be up the river when the claims adjuster reads the police report where the Clear Tails will be documented.
Ever hear about people noting when throwing superbright headlight bulbs in, they lose brightness? The blue coated bulbs actually reduce the light intensity by stripping the other colors out of the spectrum and only allowing the blueish tint to escape.
LEDs all the way
LEDs are the only way to go under clear lenses. And I suppose you can throw a little red reflective sticker somewhere on your bumper or trailer hitch to cover the legality issue?
thats why most people use l.e.d's with the clear lights, they can be seen clearly in the day and are much brighter at night than stock bulbs. In no way do I see them as dangerous.....gay maybe but then again opinions don't really count when talking about legality issues do they?
Thanks for that clarification there Flying ****. I kinda feel the way Insomniac does about the lights tho. If the LED's are as visible as the traditional bulbs then I don't see the danger. I know I said 'bulb' and not 'LEDs', would that make the difference?
first off the pics of the lights in this post are LEGAL! I have seen them on many cars and strucks and asked police about those exact ones. He informed me that they were legal so that would be all I would need to hear. LED's won't make a difference if the light housings are illegal but they will make the light more visible during the day, don't forget that you also have a "third brake light" for cases just like these. It's all opinon though.....so whatever tickles your pickle just go with it

I figured you would bring up LED's. So here it goes.
Your tailight housing was desgined for tradtional 3157 light bulbs. The refractors or mirrors in the tail light assembly reflect this light properly. When you throw in one of those knock off LED 3157 bulbs, sure you get red light. Its not even close to being as bright as a tradional 3157 bulb. Why? The LED's are NOT properly reflected through the mirror. Infact, they dont even use the refracting from the mirrors at all. The led's are at 30 degree angle, if that when emitting light. Where as a tradional 3157 is nearly emitting light at a 360 degree angle because of how the light refracts off the mirrors.
You end up with basically a small . as light compared to a 0 pattern.
Ever wonder what happens when you take a 9007 light bulb and replace the housing with say an HID bulbs? The arc needs to be moved to be properly focused. Another example would be using a maglight and moving the head adjustment to go from a flood to an intense beam.
To each there own. BTW, a lot of people dont even pay much attention to the 3rd brake light on trucks due to how high they are.
