Thumbs up Sylvania Xenarc HIDs

Well, my Xenarc HIDs arrived today...and I actually installed them myself.

Since my mechanical inclination rates in the negative numbers that is quite an accomplishment!

And the verdict is......

THESE THINGS ARE AWESOME.

I'll try to post pix tomorrow. The physical appearence is unusual...the glass sticks out a little further than the stock lights, but turn them on at night and wow.

Expensive...but highly recommended.

This animation is a pretty good representation:

When you switch to the HID system do you still have a 'hi beam' setting, or is it just one setting but better illumination?

Question

OK, the big question is where did you get them? I've been talking to Sylvania and have gotten a price quote of $699. did you get the low beams too?

With the Sylvania's, you still get high beam function. The relfector is actually divided into two sections. One for High Beams, the other for the HID bulb. Its a prettty nice system.

Good place to pick em up on the cheap is here...

HID explanation

The HIDs are the "low" beam. They have a 50W halogen for a "high" beam (essentially to be DOT legal)

Pix and answers:

The lights have both an HID element for the low beams and a halogen bulb for high beams...when you flash or put on the high beams both hid and halogen are on...you can also turn on the foglights with the high beams on...

This pic shows how the bulbs are set up...

The HID element is on top,
The halogen on the bottom...

The casings are shaped like F150 casings...however the top protrudes a little more than stock:

Those are BAD A$$. I'll be ordering my set very soon. I can get them directly from OSRAM Sylvania because I know someone that works there that gets an employee discount. $500 shipped!! I can't wait!
