Proper spacing between cab and bed?
Proper spacing between cab and bed?
I am fixing to align my bed since it is off on one side. What is the proper spacing between the cab and the bed measuring from the center of the rear sliding window directly under the plastic window border and the center of the driver/passenger door to the flaring on the bed?
My measurements are:
1 1/4" gap measuring from center of rear window to bed
1 1/5" gap on driver side
1 1/8" gap on passenger side
I SEARCHED and came across numerous threads regarding the misaligned beds, but nowhere did anyone comment on spacing IIRC. I read that if it's not aligned properly the bed can hit the cab and cause damage. I want to prevent this.....

Ford employee here, at the plant in Kansas City, since you forgot to mention what style of truck I am aligning here. We use a gauge here but when I go out into the yard and look at units at night when I am working repairs and such, I use the 2 finger rule between the cab and box. Or you can try your thumb and allow up to a 1/4 of an inch play. As for a flareside/supercrew bumper to box fit out back, we allow a single finger between box and inside lip for clearance.
Hope this give ya an idea to play with.

Well, 2 fingers is good. When we realign a box and cab here we normally just adjust the box. I have seen times where the cab is too far back and then of course we would adjust the cab. Once you have proper spacing for the box/cab make sure your bumper pad lines up with the left side boxside, then go to the right and center the boxsides with the bumper.
Have a good one!
