"Borla" Exhaust... Is this guy for real?

Just saw this for auction on ebay. A "Borla" exhaust system, that looks suspiciously like a stock exhaust system! Hmmm...

That is what I had heard years ago as well...the stock is a Borla design...hence not much performance improvements with muffler changes.

I gained 1.5 mpg with the change over to the Borla. I have heard people say that the stock exhaust is made by Borla; but, in researching it, I can't find anything that says yay or nay. Considering that the Borla sound hasn't been a favorite of Ford owners in the past, I doubt that SVT would choose it over other manufacturers that are popular, by name, to it's customers. Flowmaster, MAC, and (lately) Magnaflow are probably the best candidates, though it could be a ford design made by any company with the capabilty to follow directions.

As far as the Borla goes, I've only heard one of their systems that sounds exactly the way I like. That is the adjustable flow catback for the F-bodies. Best match-up ever for vehicle specific exhaust systems.

If that picture on E-Bay is a Borla, then I got a Borla hanging on a nail in the garage

If you look real close, the muffler has a Ford oval stamped in the middle of it.

I took my Merkur in for a high flow cat install and the owner of the shop told me that Borla made the stock Lightning Muffler. We were bull****ting about some chrome tips for my truck when he brought this up.

My exhaust guy hit me with the same thing, started telling me all about how the truck has Borla junk under it. After he realized what my intentions were and that I was going to change ALL the exhaust parts under the truck with or without his help, he didn't mention it again and went to work.

I guess because of the laws regarding the changing of the cat converters, they try to steer you another direction. He didn't want to mess with the cats at first.
