SVT Gone?
SVT Gone?
I was just curious if they were keeping the SVT badges. I read that the SVT group was going to be creating a new larger group that also included Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. I think that it was in a SVTOA magazine. I'll look around for it.
USA today quote
"Ford Motor announced Wednesday that its Ford division Special Vehicle Team (SVT), which has produced performance versions of Mustang and Focus cars and the F-Series pickup, will attempt to develop the same type of vehicles for Lincoln and Mercury."

I think that this is what I read
http://www.motortrend.com/news/stories/020509fp.html
SVT, Ford Racing Technology, and Vehicle Personalization organization will be combined into the creation of its Ford Performance Group (FPG).
It looks like it will be a FPG Lightning

This is a typical Ford being dumb as chit thing.
Long ago they build a group called SVO and with money, time and a really nice vehicle they get some decent name recognition from it.
...so they change the name.
Why? I don't know. He's on third... anyway... so they work five times as hard, boatloads of cash is dumped into the newly named group called SVT, produces WAY better vehicles, and a NAME that all auto enthusiasts speak around the camp fire, some in celebration (us), others in only low whispers (non owners)
...so they change the name to "Ford Performance Group"
Azz munchers. The letters don't even roll off the tongue. "I own a FPG Lightning"

You guys either didn't read all the article or they didn't post it (typical crappy a$$ media). I posted something about this, fords actual press release, something like a month and a half ago. SVT is not going anywhere, nor is the SVT name. They are just combining 3 cool departments within Ford to achieve some synergies.

No. SVO and SVE both still exist. The group that does the actual engineering is SVE (well actually rouch does most of it..but thats besides the point). I believe that SVO is the marketing arm, and SVT is just the 2 groups together, that is the name that gets slapped on the a$$ end of the vehicle...and will continue to get slapped.
It is wait and see what the marketing types do with SVT/SVE/SVO/FPG. The encouraging thing is the blurb in the latest Autoweek, the Gen3 will be out in '05 with 500HP. I do not care what they call it, I like it.
Do a search...the SVT name will NOT NOT NOT be changing. It will stay as SVT.
The SVT name will only be used on Ford brand vehicles. You will probably not see the FPG name on any vehicle; it is just an internal name.
They will start doing some work on Merc's and Lincolns, but they will be branded differently.

Well, I hope that they keep the SVT name AND they don't dilute it with Merc's and Lincolns. If SVT goes on anything then it won't have any meaning. Ford should be real careful with this. I know that they want to expand their profits with a boat load of high performance vehicles with high profit margins. But, the fairly low production #'s (uniqueness) for the SVT helps make it worth more.
