My 2000 L is totaled!
My son was broadsided by a lady who ran a light while talking on her cell phone. The rear axle is broken, the frame is bent, the box is smashed. Her insurance company decided to total the L. Fortunately, my son and his friend are OK. My whole family was heartbroken over the loss of the L. To help ease the pain, I've decided to take advantage of a great offer from my dealer and will replace the L with a 2002 Blackwood!
It was a great 2-years with the Lightning. Looking forward to enjoying the 'Wood.

I'm sorry for your loss but I am a bit mystified..My box is totalled and frame bent andmine was border line..mine is not a lightning..its a 5.4 reg cab xlt stepside so I got what svt started with..also there is a 99-2000 L at the bodyshop with the box destroyed and frame bent and its not totalled either..so what is their reasoning? Also what did they estimate damages at?
Badblack...what bodyshop are you referring too? My L is in the shop right now for the bent frame and damaged box as well. However the damage wasnt enough to warranty them totaling it cause there was only somewhere in the neighborhood of $10,000 in damage.

Grateful Dread down in Houston just purchased a Wood and got a Mercury Capri for free in the deal and just missed out on no payments for a year or something like that.
There are incredible deals going on Woods just now. I am guessing you can get one for the price of a normal Screw let alone the price of a Harley.
While I am not aware of any of us Wood owners that have done any performance mods yet, you start with the Gator 300hp DOHC motor and for less than $500 you should be able to get up to 340hp or equal to the stock Harley. Then you still have a lot of money left to play with considering they seem to be going for $15 to $20K off list depending on how bad the dealers/Lincoln division want to get them off the lots.
That at least was my logic and it worked well for me. Hope Reed gets the same result and btw, I bet they won't deal very much at all on a Harley. They go for close to sticker here in Atlanta.

My totaled L...
More on why they totaled my L...
The insurance company initially put the damages at about $11,000, and chose to pursue repairs. As the body shop got into it more, they discovered the bent frame, and said it would take 4 to 6 weeks to get all of the parts required. This meant that they would be paying for my rental truck all of that time, which added even more. The shop also found that the back seal of the transmission was busted out, the drive shaft broken, etc. They pinned the repair costs at about $12,500, which in addition to the rental cost, was over 50% of value of the truck. That's when they decided to total.
Someone could get a really nice engine, blower, etc. from the salvage company! It only had 13K miles. I really wish I had the $$ to buy it.

My truck started out at $9,000 in damage. They were able to repair the bend in the frame because it was a vertical bend downward versus a horizontal bend. The driveline was perfectly fine. Mine has now taken 11 weeks to repair due to a problem with Ford being able to ship a bed to the body shop. So State Farm has been paying about $37.00 a day for 11 weeks for me to be driving a brand new chevy silverado and more recently a new dodge ram 4x4. In hind sight they probably should have totaled it out and saved themselves the money, but hey less miles I am putting on my truck.
