Exclamation Problem at WOT!!!!!

While "playing" with a 99 Mustang in traffic---we slowed to try and catch a red light...low and behold the light stayed green and when we cleared the intersection, Mr Mustang decided to downshift and take off. As all of you who read this would do...I stomped on it, jumped on him by about 3/4 car length, then it happened.....

......around 60-65 mph @4000rpms....my blower was screaming (it sounded like a little more than it should, and it felt like my motor just quit...like it stalled. So I hit the brake and began to ponder (and pout). So someone please tell me what in the name of Zues' butthole may have happened???

Its driving normal now..however, at idle I can feel it vibrate intermittenly through the brake pedal. My only mods are the superchip/oil breather and air kit. Any ideas please help!!!

01

thanks

Did you pop the hood and check all your hoses and everything? Did it throw any codes?

When you initially punched it, did your truck downshift into 1st? If so the problem you experienced is the dreaded boost dump.

sounds like boost dump to me too. Do you have a boost dump bypass or the boost dump solenoid unplugged? If not I bet that's exactly what happened.....JR

Ya know, thats what i thought at first also....But i didnt think my RPMS were high enough for the boost dump to activate.....However, it happened so fast--that it is very possible (and probable) thats what it was. So, If thats the case--if I would have had my dump solenoid unplugged--could it be possible that my motor could have scattered all over the street?

If my bypass did its job--why would i want to override that?

thanks again guys--this is what the forum is for!!!

What are you running for spark plugs??

If you still have the stock plugs you may have burnt a plug

If you still have stock plugs, get a set of NGK TR6's and gap them at .040

Still have the stock plugs.....Im planning on a 4lb lower come spring time.....will those plugs work ok with the new pulley?

BTW--i only have 5700 miles--could the plugs really be bad already?

Ill go ahead and change the plugs---but what about the boost bypass--after today, im not sure I want to unplug/override a safety device like this. If it did its job today--whats to say that spending $25 on a homemade bypass kit, would have cost me $2000 after sweeping up bits and pieces of rods and block?

Why would anyone want to rid their truck of a safety that just may have saved my lil @ss tonite?
