BAD DEAL! just bought a 2000 L and found out POWERTRAIN WARRANTY VOIDED!

Hi all,
Thought you might find this interesting. maybe something that folks hadn't really thought about, but a friend and customer of mine just yesterday purchased a used lightning with only 10,000 miles. He came into the dealership today and when my service writer ran oasis on it he found out that the Powertrain Warranty has been VOIDED !

He is trying to return the truck now and I have contacted the service manager at the Ford Dealership where the "voiding" took place to get some more info as to what/when/why, but am waiting to hear back.

Wouldn't that just make you sick to your stomach?!

Nothing like being ripped off.

Buyer beware! Do your research (and then some) before buying a used L. Realistically, the chances of this happening are slim, but still a possibility.

Also, this truck came from Maryland, anybody here?

later,
chris

Some say, "If you play you gotta pay."
I say, "If you buy it it's yours." Especially if you don't do your research before purchasing a $20K vehicle.

Well, they should have mentioned the warranty being voided. Guy probally would not have bought it if the warranty was voided.

Wouldn't it depend on the selling terms? I mean, if they sold it "As is/No warranty" then he is SOL, but if it listed a warranty of any kind, even "remaining manufacturer's" I would think he would have a good lawsuit case, forcing either a refund or that the selling dealer handle any warranty repairs.

Regardless, it will likely come down to legal action to fix it.

I wouldn't have bought my Lightning either if I knew that the SVT premium service was optional and that Ford will void a powertrain warranty for a 2" hole in an air box, K&N filter, and Borla exhaust.

yeah, but who really goes and checks for something like that? The vehicle wasn't advertised "as is". It would seem to me to be implied that a 2000 model vehicle with only 10,000 miles would still have factory 3yr/36k warranty coverage unless otherwise specified.

Somebody somewhere knew the deal on this one.

chris

It's really sad, but when it comes to money in the business realm, their are NO loyalties, NO friends, usually NO morals, and the gloves come off.

It's a sad state of affairs that soooooo many people put the dollar on a higher value than they do inocent people.

I hope Ford takes care of this guy.

Additionally, I looked at some used ones myself. But after I got to thinking about how a low milage 1 to 2 year old one was used? Most likely a little ole lady DID'NT own it. And in reality MOST likely a younger fella who was bent on proving something, ragged the "you know what" out of it during that first 10k miles!

I figured I'd just bite the bullit and get a new one. Now I know exactly what's what. But then again I am paying for it too.

I don't think it is the responsibility of Ford to take care of this. What happens when second owners start bringing in previously modded vehicles for warranty repair? Is Ford going to fix their trucks or void their warranties? I say void the warranties. Ford is a poor company and has been losing money for awhile now.

What color is it and where was it initially traded in to?

carfax is worthless! The only way that i have figured out that information gets posted to carfax reports is if the repairs go through an insurance company. I just bought a used 2000 with a clean carfax report. Come to find out that it has had body work done to it. If a vehicle is damaged, and the damage is paid for by someone else than an insurance company, there will be no reporting to carfax. That is what happened to my truck.

CarFax shows clean on that. They won't show warranty voids, only reported lemon returns.
