Question How important is an air intake?

If you do just a 6# pulley Denso plugs and Custom Diablo chip is it that necessary to do an intake? How about just a K&N panel drop in filter. Can I do any damage running the 6# pulley , plugs and chip only. I looked under the hood and wouldn’t most of the intake systems suck in all the hot air of the engine bay? I know it has the walls around the filter but its not going to stop the heat for long.

Any thoughts?

You wont do any damage not having the air kit as long as your chip is programmed for your mods. You will want more air flow though, especially with the 6#er.......You could get PSP's FAST air system, which has been tested to get intake air temps to the outside air temp. It uses a heat sheild and 2 or 3 air pipes that route air from under the truck to the air box. Uses the 12" cone filter also.

I plan on doing a hood scoop above the filter pretty soon to acheive 'true ram air'

I could be wrong, but even with the engine heat, I think you will gain hp by adding an open filter, the air might be hotter, but its going through a hot s/c and a intercooler on its way to combustion...............at the very least you get a ear-peircing whine......

From what ive heard, anything over 2lb'er, you should get an open air kit. I think that the stock box restricts air too much after a 2lb'er, and you won't get as good gains!

Try running around the block with your hand over your mouth, then run around without your hand over your mouth.Pretty much the same thing with your truck lookin for more air with a 6#er with a stock airbox and then getting some sort of
after market filter. This is how someone explained it to me once
and it made sence at the time I hope it does for you too..
