Are These a Good Replacement for Stock Speakers?

Did a search on speakers and came up with a recommendation for Memphis PR57S's as a good upgrade to stock L speakers. Has anybody got experience with these speakers? Would appreciate some input, going to be one of my winter "stay sane" projects.

Can't tell you anything about that brand, mine are Rockford's.

Are you keeping the stock head unit? Putting in an amp?
A sub?

Going to keep the same head and no amp. Got the Crutchfield sub but watching posts to see whats going on with the radio
interference before I put it in.

Thanks,
Mark

Look at this thread:

I did the same thing you are thinking of... replaced 4 speakers and kept everything else stock. Much better sound, and only spent 130 bucks.

well i was keeping everything stock, and i changed the speakers to the polk audio GXR's cost $330 w/ install. and yeah they sound good, but not to there potential, im definetly chaging the head unit now. i also read somewhere that, there is a 100% more chance you can blow up your speakers with the factory head unit than with a new one. because if you want it to be louder, sure aftermarket speakers can handle twice the wattage, but the factory head unit is still only giving out like 9 watts, compared to 17-22 watts that a aftermarket can get you. and since the factory head unit only gives that 9 watts, if you have it real loud, it has to work so hard to be that loud, and it blows your speakers. thats what it says in the book anyways. but if you want it to be louder and even sound better, change the head unit (NOT SONY!) pioneer, jvc, kenwood. actually if you change the headunit, and not the speakers, you stock speakers will sound way better. i did that in my cobra, and everyone thought i changed my speakers, but all i did was the head unit.

sorry for the long post.

If you are planing on keeping the OEM head unit and just want a inexpensive but good sounding set up, I recommend that you check with Crutchfield. You can get some good Pioneer 5 x7s and they have a Clairion 'como' 8" powered sub that will connect to the OEM head unit. You can have it all for less then $225

If you want a true 'hi end' system, you must go custom and be ready to drop 5-10 times the $$$

I just did my system.Kept the factory head unit ,remounted the changer under the middle seat .Added Polk Audio 100w 5x7's,MTX 4030 450w 5-channel amp,MTX thunderform box with 2-JL 10W0 subs. This thing really ROCKS!!
Adding the amp to the polks made a huge difference. And the 2-10's with blow you out of the cab[and my gain is only turned up half way!]
Best of all i've only got about $800 in the whole system!
Hope this helps!

if you have it real loud, it has to work so hard to be that loud, and it blows your speakers.
It distorts and that is what causes the speakers to end the life span.

Also if you want louder by speakers only, look for ones with a better efficiency (dB on the speakers). I'm not sure what the dB rating is that human ear can hear, but for every for dB's higher on the speaker it will be louder at the same whats then a speaker with a lower dB rating.

If you are going to stick with the stock HU and no amp, then just look for any low end Pioneer, Kenwood, Panasonic, etc. The lower end stuff is made to run on lower end (read not as powerfull, not as high wattage) systems.

I have problems with my 8 track skipping during idle, thats why I went with the 9 track. The 9th track is an anti-skip track.
